Old Abbey Ales Belgian Quad is our biggest, most flavourful beer. At 10.1% ABV, this Belgian style Quadruple represents a deep garnet to dark brown hue of bold strength and character. Exhibits great depths of maltiness, the smooth mouth-feel and full body deliver multiple layers of malt complexity evocative of rich, dark fruit, molasses, brown sugar and more. This beer also exhibits spicy yeast notes while the hops keep the mall sweetness from becoming cloying, but they remain in the background.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Dark muddy mahogany brown with full beige head. Plum, brown sugar, raisin, hint of chocolate, noticeable alcohol. Pretty decent attempt at a Canadian quad. May pick one up to age.

Test batch which was flat and lifeless. Nose showed promise, this will be good when properly bottle conditioned

650mL bottle, pours a dark amber / mahogany with a medium beige head. Nose brings out candied fruits, caramel malts and some toffee. Flavour is quite complex, with caramel malts, candied fruits and a lovely Belgian yeast profile. Fairly authentic for a non-Belgian quad. Complex and highly drinkable for a 10% beer. Excellent.

2016-01-31, draught at the brewery, new brewer, 7-5-8-4-16=40
Dark amber to mahogany color. It has a good malt character with caramel side, sweet, alcoholic, warm, a bit nutty.
Rich, excellent.

2015-05-03, bottle from Hastings Liquor, 7-5-8-4-17=41
Brown with a nice dark amber hue, clean, with creamy head. Aroma of caramel, sweet, with very light notes of liquorice and anise. Good body strength; quite good job with the malt, more caramel flavor, moderately sweet; differently from other Quad-wannabe this one has a good character coming from the combination of dark caramel and yeast; there are some fruity esters that enhance the experience, and it has a gentle alcohol warmth. Powerful. It has 27 respectable IBUs that provide some dynamic touch, so I wouldn’t age this beer, but drink it as is.
Excellent Quadrupel.

Bottle - Nice raisin, plum, dark fruit and dark sugars. Deep brown with a thin off white head. Dark sugars, plum and raisin. A very solid quad that may be the best BC has to offer. I have a bottle to sit on and will see what happens in 6 months.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark mahogany with moderate head. Aromas of earthy/vegetal yeast, sugar, doughy malts, and light spice. Flavors of brown sugar, raisins, copper and more vegetal notes. First batch - an opportunity to get better...
