Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Wonderful beer. Complex, rich and roasty. Pours black with great head of mocha foam and lacing. Well-rounded roast malt with some smoke to boot. Hops, light booze aroma, light caramel toffee, chocolate and coffee. Thick and complex on palate with finish one-third sweetness and two-thirds bitter. Palate is huge and here and balance impeccable. Texture is thick and a little creamy. Bottle from lcbo.

Bottle @ Greg’s palace. Picked up ages ago @ Wilbur’s (maybe 2 years ago). Pours an ink black appearance with a fairly thin brown head. Big anise, roasty malty, a touch smoky, dark fruity, fig aroma. Pretty fucken smooth. Delicious, creamy, burnt malty, somewhat creamy, chocolate, black licorice, woody flavor. Really nice roasty malty aftertaste. Excellent! Need to pick up some more of these!

500ml bottle from Brewdog AGM 2013. Jet black pour with a long-lating dark brown head. Looks lovely in the glass, liquid silk. Aromas of very dark chocolate, hint of roasted coffee, molasses and baked oranges. Taste had a bit of booze heat at first, but this mellowed, and brought about a lovely balanced big beer, with some liquorice coming through. Creamy mouthfeel, very rich, and very good.
