Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Half liter bottle pours with a near inky black body that supports a thin tan colored head of foam. The aroma has some nice and dark roasted notes as well as chocolate and a pleasing degree of toastiness. The taste is yummy, I’m loving this. It is smooth and subtle yet rich and deep. It’s a paradox beer. I get lots of highly roasted malts, toffee covered chocolate goodness and a modest degree of mineral notes, sweet dark fruitiness and a touch of booziness. YUM.

[Thanks to Rasmus40]. 50cl bottle. Country #63. Black colour with an initial good formation of a tan head that quickly diminishes. Aroma is toasty, roasty, cocoa and coffee. Flavor is roasty, light bittery, cocoa notes, red fruits are also present, dark chocolate and black coffee traces. On palate results smooth, creamy and dense. The final is light bittery and swee, good balanced, dominated by roasted malts. Carbonation is low to medium. Body is high. Texture is oily.

Bottle at the Cask, Pimlico - 14/12/12. Light black bordering dark mahogony brown in the light, thin tan head that clears to the edge and a small film. Nose is dark malt, bitter chocolate, roast coffee, leather, touch of smoke, dark fruit notes. Tastes of roast malts, dark fruits, pine and hops in the background, chocolate, light coffee. Full bodied with soft fine carbonation leading to a bitter roasted finish. Decent.

Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, licorice and coffee. Taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long chocolate, coffee and licorice finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, shared by Meilby. It’s an almost black one, topped by a small, light tan head. Sweetish nose with roasted malts, some liquorice and dark chocolate. Some coffee as well. Semi-sweet on the palate, full body and pleasant carbonation. Coffee, roasted malts, liquorice and some chocolate. A nice bitterness chimes in towards the end. Overall, certainly a pleasant beer. 120929

500 ml bottle. Pours black with medium beige head. Very fruity aroma with underlying chocolate and coffee. Flavors of bitter chocolate and roasted coffee with lots of fruit notes (mandarins,raspberries and unripened plums). Rich. Dry. Great.

0.5l bottle @ BrewDog, Camden. Black as the dark knight, and I had to force a head on this one, but when it appeared it looked absolutely amazing. Creamy thick and heavy espresso-brown in color. On the aroma this is sweet and really roasted. Thick caramel and coffee-chocolate with hints of soy sauce. Niceness! In the taste it's also heavy roasted goodies that dominates. Yeah, this was really tasty. Quite viscous and thick in the mouthfeel and it's softly carbonated - the way I like my impys. Lot's of sweet chocolate going on here, more heavy roasted malts and the flavor just lingers forever. There is also a balancing bitterness that makes it scary easy to drink. Really enjoyable as a early morning sipper. 20.07.2012
