Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Bottle from BrewDog online, and shared at Dan’s. Pours black with a lasting beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, toffee, plus a touch of mint. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Full bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation. A complex and very enjoyable beer.

0,33l bottle at home bought from Beer Republic. No BB date. black color, dark coffee-colored head. smells bitter chocolate, earthy, bit dusty, lightly sour, light vanilla, nice smell but not totally convincing. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes rather strong of ash, licorice, bit earthy, light vanilla, light peppers, coffee grounds, once it warms up more oats, some light pine and citric notes. finishes light to medium roasty bitter and dry with notes of ash, light chocolate and vanilla. overall good, but taste at first (when cold) was rather unbalanced towards ashy bitterness. after it warms up it gets a bit better, but still lacks some balance. overall rather decent beer though.

Bottle at home. Three years old. Pours a dark brown to black colour with a big compact light brown head. Aroma of roasted coffee beans, chocolate truffles, sweet licorice, roasted malt and some oak and alcohol. The flavour is more roasted with ash, heavy roasted malt, coffee, tobacco and dark chocolate in the background. Has soft and silky mouth feel, full-bodied and solid bitterness. A really tasteful and aromatic IS with a nice balance between roasted malt and sweet chocolate. Especially lots of chocolate in the aroma.

Owl Farm, Brooklyn tap: pours black with a small brownish head. Aroma is thick chocolate, booze, molasses, and malts. Definitely on the sweet and roasty side of stouts rather than the bitter side of ISs. Pretty thick bodied. Plenty of complexity.

Draught @ Mikkeller Bangkok. Inky black with large spongy tan head, sweet mocha aroma, medium carbonation, bitter chocolate-mocha taste followed by hoppy bitterness, thick body, long hoppy finish. Wow! Incredibly well balanced brew for a 10 plus percent ABV.

Bottle from Beers’n’more. Coffee, vanilla, chocolate, as a classic great ImpStout. Sweet, intense and heavy. A bit sticky. Cocoa powder. I waited for this beer 20 months after not buying it the first time, and it almost lives up to that. But just almost.
