Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Keg at Beer Temple, 3rd September 14. Good impy, liquorice and some coffee, quite sweet, but smooth. Not bad

On tap @ Beer Temple. Black color. Beige head, good lacing. Aroma’s: resinous hops, roasted malts, with chocolate and some fruit (citrus) retronasal. Flavor is roasted, moderate bitter, moedrate sweet, resinous hops. Medium bodied. Alcocol certainly doesn’t feel like 10.5%. Finishes with bittersweet chocolate, roast, and moderate bitter. Nice!

Draft. A big beer indeed. Thick lasting taste of roasted malt, dark cacao, rough coffee and subtle vanilla. Rich aftertaste. Really good.

Imperial stout from a Danish brewer who has moved to New Zealand. Dark beige, creamy, thin but very stable head, colour black, only under bright light a faint wine-red hue appears. Rich and complex aroma, profoundly malty, bitter and milk chocolate, freshly ground coffee beans, vanilla, candi syrup, dates, sage, coffee liqueur, bourbon. Candied fruits in the mouth, almost sweet, smooth, thick and very oily mouthfeel, deep chocolate malts, heavy but still supple, increasingly bitter towards the finish, ending like cold black coffee with a firm dose of leafy hop bitterness and some warming, but not astringent, liqueur-like alcohol, nicely perfumed. Multi-layered, very impressive example of the style, in which things keep happening from the first whiff to the last drop. An example for any brewer aspiring to make a really good imperial.

Svart farge med tynt skum. Lukter kaffe, sjokolade og kirsebær. Smakern preges av kaffe og får litt sherryfeeilng som vanlig av en imperial stout. Denne synes jeg var en av de bedre:-)

(Bottle) Black with mahogany head. Nice rich aroma - raisins, hint of coffee. Fantastic palate, medium bodied, smooth, fine carbonation and a pleasant stickiness in the finish. There’s plenty of pleasant sweetness that carries the darker and more complex tastes well. There’s raisins and toffee at the start. Coffee notes and some nice alcohol bite develops and there is some restrained pleasant dark roasty bitterness in the finish. Excellent beer.

Svart med lys brunt skum som ligger helt ut. Kaffe, kakao, ristet malt, trevirke og rosiner. Mye lukter her....

Innholdsrik smak. Sjokolade, lakris. Litt preg av mokkabønner etter hvert. Alkoholen merkes ikke. Heftig & god.

500ml bottle. Pours black with a light brown head and aroma of roast malt, treacle, smoke, coffee, chocolate. Taste is sweet malty, brown sugar, dark fruits, coffee & chocolate plus some lingering roasted notes and grassy, hop bitterness. Silky smooth mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter finish. Very drinkable.
