We call this our “gateway beer”. It is a quality craft beer that is both complex, yet
accessible - brewed for the common man. This style was born on the West Coast, using
lager yeast, yet fermented at ale temperatures. On the nose – subtle toasty, malt aroma,
on the tongue – caramel notes, with a dry, crisp body and slight bitter finish.

Has a modest copper body and a bit of white foam on top, but not much. Aroma is soft sugar with some lager notes. Flavour is inoffensive lager and nothing else. Dry finish. This is simply average.

355ml can. As Cali Common. Pours a slightly hazy copper-amber with a small, creamy, short lived, white head that laces. Mild aroma of toasted bready malt, caramel and earthy yeast. Sweet flavour of biscuit malt, caramel, citrus and floral hops with a dry, crisp, bitter grass finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Clean, easy drinking.

Can. Bright amber. Not much head. Aroma is caramel, bit metallic, touch toasty. On the palate, light bitterness, touch of caramelly sweetness. Vague esters. Just bland and uninteresting, as per the style.

On tap at Bitter Tasting Room, pours a hazy bronze with a small white head. Aroma is almost non-existent, maybe some crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is crisp, with biscuity malt and some spicy grassy hops. Clean and balanced. Not the most interesting beer, but it's well-constructed. Decent.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Beautiful, bright light amber color with small creamy head. The aroma is delicate. The flavor is more pronounced than any other California Common, a lot of cereal husk character (and a bit weird thus), dry mouthfeel, but it has some residual sweetness; unfortunately the bitterness is too strong, with a chicory character in the final.
Not bad, and have to admit that it’s a clean beer, but it’s flawed. And why local breweries insist brewing California Common???

Draft - Light caramel and vegetal notes. Clear copper with a decent white head. Grainy with some vegetal notes. Not good.
