Bottle, thanks to Leighton. It pours very dark brown, near black, with a moderate tan head. The nose is toasted coconut, chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, vanilla, wood and alcohol. The taste is chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, coconut, chewy malt, earth and chocolate digestive biscuit, with alcohol warmth in the finish. Full body and low-medium carbonation. Complex, yet very well balanced. Delicious!

330ml bottle. Deepest dark brown with small, stable, lacing, creamy to frothy beige head. Smokey, woody aroma, leather, ashes, almost sulphur. The first sip’s impression is: heavy - heavy in its literal sense. Full body, even the glass seems to be filled with a fluid doubling the weight of water. A cognac note is present in taste throughout; a leather-like woody note predominates in the beginning; coffee gains influence with time; dark chocolate reigns the finish, liquorice sweetness sticks on palate, lips, teeth. Even a Black IPA note, often concentrating hop and malt to a carrot-like taste, is present. Very good, ageless beauty in its simplicity seen from distance.

Bottle at home in London with Paul. Pours oily black-brown with a creamy, light beige cream head. Big woody, hard alcohol aroma, some burnt rubber and cocoa and dark sugar. There is a strong wood character in the flavor, medium to strong sweetness, charred malts, dark chocolate. Some burnt grass. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warm finish, lots of lightly dry wood, some mild smoke, cocoa, faint spice, scorched earth, moss, some dark fruits. A very impressive beer. Big and bold with tons going on. Excellent.

(A) 33 cl. bottle @ home / purchased @ hopduvel in Gent: (A) very, very dark brown, slight Bordeaux hued with little to pretty much no head formation going on / (S) very ‘De Molen’ with lots very, very strong grounded coffee beans, ’De Molen" smoke, dark malts, nicely roasted, thick fresh wood, almost peppery character to it, touch nutty / (T) very creamy, nice milk chocolate sweetness upfront followed by lots of ground coffee beans going into a very bitter finish, not much smoke in the flavour, slight touch fresh wood but not lots, slight hazel, nutty, touch ‘milky’, lots of cocoa, very bitter chocolate in the finish / (B) not as thick as you would expect, slightly slick & quite oily, not much carb. – very lovely, I have had the regular, wild turkey, this one and Misto so far, would rank this second after Misto (bottled on 14.11.2011)

Shared bottle Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Nice roasty aroma, notes of coffee, liquorice, oak and old brandy. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma. Very good beer.

Thanks to bierkoning for that one. Bottle looks unusual for De Molen, but good. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Complex-malty aroma with a hint of liquorice. Starts strong, complex-malty, but not too much. Well balanced malty notes, a bit oily with hints of vanille and coffee. Finish very well balanced and warming. Wonderful drinkable. A masterpiece!

2011 vintage on draft at BBF 2011. Black pour with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and oak. Flavour has same aspects with some cognac and caramel.
