So called because of its truly "ruinous" effect on your palate, this massive hop monster will change forever your preconceptions of what defines good beer. This is Stone IPA's big brother, and we mean BIG. We essentially began with our already-awesome Stone IPA, threw in an extra-large helping of malt, and added a lot more hops. And then some more. And then even more, resulting in a vibrant blast of citrusy bitterness that hits you on the first sip. Just one taste and you'll know why we call this indelicate jewel "A liquid poem to the glory of the hop!"

Bottle @ Blackfriars. Clear golden colour, white head. Nose is malty, caramel, pine hops. Flavour is hoppy, resin, grapefruit. Medium bodied, oily, bitter finish. Excellent stuff and well drinkable.

355ml bottle. Pours golden-orange with gentle bubbles and a good head. The nose has extreme levels of pine, with a hint of grapefruit pith. The taste has grapefruit, pine and a hint of nuts and earthiness. The palate is medium to rich in structure, with a medium texture and a dry finish. Overall, the hops kick in to give a dry though not refreshing finish - don’t want another.

355ml bottle. Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma is mango balanced with malt. Not at all in your face. Taste is sticky hop to start with some orange. Finish is medium bitter with mango.

Picked up a super fresh bottle from Bert’s tonight after the stone tasting. Pours a crystal clear deep golden bordering on copper color with good two finger tightly bubbled white head that recedes slowly lacing my entire glass. Smells of pine and resinin mostly. Caramel brown sugar and a touch of alcohol deep within the aroma. Taste is pine and herbal and bitter. Barely enough caramel malt to soften the bitter blow from the hops. Finishes with a long lingering hop blast and a bit of warming alcohol. Sticky resinous mouthfeel, medium body and level of carbonation. I’ve had this many times and just got around to reviewing it now. This is a great go to beer when I need a blast of hops.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is stellar. Tons of hops coming off this with a sweetish malt in the backround. Flavor does bring things back to earth with a sweet malt and then some hops hit you. Not as pallate crushing as I expected it to be but then again it is a bit more drinkable than some other IIPA’s. Good stuff at a good price.

I like it. Very dry on the palate. Pours a lovely golden, amber-orangeish color with nice-sized, fluffy, white head. Typical IPA aromas and flavors: citrus, floral, pine, etc. This is right up there with Bell’s Hopslam for an ultimate IPA.

Bottle (O’Connor’s, Uppsala) - Amber with a slight haze. Grapefruit and toffee in the aroma. Hoppy and tangy taste with grapefruit, peach, toffee, syrup and biscuity malt. Fairly balanced and tasty.

On tap at the Ginger Man Dallas. It pours hazy golden yellow with a thin foamy head. The nose is lots of citrus fruits, caramel, resin and pine. The taste is orange, lemon, mango, resin, monster hop bite, pine, bread, biscuit, leather and some astringency with a long bitter-dry finish. It’s surprisingly smooth and almost a bit too easy to drink!

Ruination IPA always causes me quite some consternation. On the one hand, it’s a beautiful citrus-laden IPA, smooth and oh so lovely as the hops first hit your tongue. On the other hand, it destroys your tastebuds with wave after wave of monstrous hop bitterness. Your opinion of Ruination rests upon your willingness to subject your tongue to such ridicule and abuse; personally, one Ruination is plenty, since I consider my palate a friend. 2023 Update: Tastes change. Goddamn what an amazing IPA. Wish I could try a Hopsickle to see what I think now.
