This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory—maybe something with a multimillion-dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made at an independent brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless seltzer / fizzy yellow beer / whatever-the-hell will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multimillion-dollar ad campaigns make all that junk taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

We believe that pandering to the lowest common denominator represents the height of tyranny—a virtual form of keeping the consumer barefoot, stupid & led by the nose social media. Brought forth upon an unsuspecting public in 1997, Arrogant Bastard Ale openly challenged the tyrannical overlords who were brazenly attempting to keep the people chained in the shackles of poor taste. One glance around and it’s glaringly obvious: they’re winning...as of now. Yet we will not stop. Ever. Since the very beginning, Arrogant Bastard Ale has reveled in its unprecedented and uncompromising celebration of intensity. There have been many nods to Arrogant Bastard Ale…even outright attempts to copy it…but only one can ever embody the true nature of Liquid Arrogance! Hated By Many. Loved By Few.

A friendly 22 oz. brown bottle from Albertson’s joined me for this rating. ABA (which I nickname ODB) is my go-to for a cost-conscious top level ale. Great presence, just the right head for nice lacing on my tall glass stein. Really a nice nutty opening taste along with some smoke, lingers for awhile. Pine, resiny, perhaps a hint of chocolate. Complex. ABA does not slam you with a flavor jolt, just really tasty. At 7.2% ABA is elevated but does not kick your rear end. Probably my favorite right now next to some Belgians. I always try to have a bottle on hand cause you just don’t know. Oh yeah.

Can 500ml. Brewed in Berlin. Zadna wielka rewelacja, owszem piwo wyraziste w smaku cos miedzy belgijskim mocnym Ale a imperialnym podwojnym IPA. Pachnie chmielem amerykanskim, chyba to Amarillo.

On tap at Who Cares for Beer 2016 Beer Festival, Bevog Brewery, Bad Radkersburg, Austria. Shared with His Highness Kaiser und König Igor and Rasta Teacher Mark. From Stone Brewing Berlin. Clear amber, off-white head. Dry fruits, caramel, honey and alcohol aromas. Sweet, but finish is light dry. Warming body, soft carbonation. You can feel the alcohol.

Rich, dark brown with beige head. Taste is also rich, roasty, full-bodied, with a nice balance of hops and malts. This beer Was my first strong ale when I got into craft beer. I still enjoy it.

A dark brown beer, a head is dense, big and beige. Aroma has richness of malts, caramel, wood and some fruit cake. Taste has strong maltyness, herbs, some caramel. A bitterness is quite strong and nicely drying, but also harsh in the end. Strongly medium bodied, nicely smooth palate. Too harsh bitterness isn’t combined nicely to otherwise smooth maltyness. Nicely challenging beer, anyway.

50cl can. Forest floor and pines, but others do that better. Very bitter throughout. Dry, no sweetness whatsoever. Earthy. Okay, but not exciting.
