[3/2/15] Draught at Big Time Brewery in Seattle. Clear coper. Aroma of honey, graininess, butter and a bit of hops. Sweetish flavor with honey, graininess, a bit of butter, spicy rye and a bitter hops finish. Medium-bodied.

On tap at Big Time, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out spicy hops, rye, some orange fruitiness, and biscuity malt. Flavour is clean and balanced, with notes of oranges and other citrus and tropical fruitiness, along with lightly spicy hops. Well-balanced and easy to drink. Very good stuff.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a clear dark amber color with a medium bone white head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasty malt and mildly spiced hops. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character and notes of rye and toasted malt in the background. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitterness left behind. Decent brew overall.

Cloudy orange-amber colour. Toasty with a big rye character and some pommelo hop notes as well. Medium body. Surprisingly rounded malt character with woody hops, abundant rye, slight yeasty earthiness and toasty. Very fresh-tasting. I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by Big Time’s more recent lineup additions, but this is an old (if seldom made) recipe and the balance and quality is indicative of what made Big Time great back in the day.
