This intense Imperial Stout is defined by its high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, it creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a complex beer. Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written.

Thick vast light brown head on top of an opague black colored beer. Smell hops, coffee, fruits, grapefruit. Lots of taste, complex beer. Hops, fruits, grapefruits, bitter, coffe and roasted. Carbo ok, full body.

375ml bottle BrewDog.com
Appearance - Jet black, no light through, frothy tan-head 2 finger width which dissipates
Aroma - Alcohol, roasted - burnt malt, roast coffee, ashtray, earth. Complex and boozy.
Flavour - strong hops with alcohol initially then ash, roast coffee, charcoal, bit of plain bitter chocolate with alcohol. Seemed to be less complex than the aroma.
Palate - Oily, good carbonation, alcohol burn. Finish - alcohol burn with rather harsh coffee bitterness, dry, ashy, bit acidic.
Overall - Too boozy, the flavours not masking the alcohol enough, bit over strong roasted / burnt coffee, with not pleasant ash aroma. An interesting experimental beer, but there are better imperial stouts out there. I’m disappointed with this one - half the bottle was drain pour.

375ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium tan head. Aroma has piney hops, some tropical fruit and a little bitter coffee. Taste has some tropical fruit and roast coffee to start. Lots of roast coffee and bitter piney hops in the finish. Thick. No heat considering the strength. Very tasty but expecting it to be a bit more intense.

Bottle @ private tasting, Denver. Thanks Adnielsen. Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of raosted malt, caramel, coffee, raisins and some alchohol. Taste is very sweet with sweet dark dried fruit ie raisins, plums, coffee, camemel, smoke, alchohol pretty well hidden. Rather thin body, low carbonation, sweet sticky mouthfeel. 070411

Opaque black stout. Low carbonation. Not a silky Impy! Strong with spirity heat. Subtle cherry and raspberry and a few brandy and whisky flavours. Finishes dry and with some coffee bitterness. Much better when not too cold.

Fragrant, harsh aroma of coffee and spent coffee grounds, with some vanilla and a bit of licorice. Sweet flavor of coffee, vanilla, milk, hot alcohol, burnt wood, a bit of berry, cherry coke. Harsh coffee flavor. Kind of fizzy. Very boozy with coffee, that’s about it. Extremely disappointing.
