Released the same year as Viaemilia at the end of March 2007, A.F.O. was our second creation. The history of this beer dates back to when Giovanni Campari, brewmaster and founder of the brewery, first came into contact with the new and irresistible character of American hops. Back home, he decided to make the Ale of his dreams, which expressed a complex bouquet, fascinating but never usual. He traveled between England and Germany, visiting hop growers and experimenting, carrying out a research into the olfactory territory of hops which finally materialized in the current A.F.O.

Draught@BQ, Via Losanna, Milan. A vivid copper coloured beer with a smallish tan head. Enticing hop laden aroma with some nice fruity notes protruding. Once more the flavour was robustly hopped, with some balancing sweet malts that had an earthy quality and a hint of spice. Quite full bodied. Lingering bitter finish that satisfied. A really characterful and tasty take on the style.

Hazy amber with light brown head - aroma of hops right from the start - well balanced between malt and hop bitterness - very nice bitterness that continues into the finish - very good beer

Huge beige shiny coarseish head. Hazy red body with floaties and fast carbonation. Tropical fruit, wood, and lacquer aroma with peppery notes. Dry-bitter tropical fruit and resin taste with wooden spicy peppery notes. Mid-bodied. Faintly astringent mouthfeel. Dry spicy wooden resiny aftertaste with roasty resiny notes. Very nice, even if strongly hopped with a lack of compensating sweetness. Easy to drink, too. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly.)

Bottle, 33cl, 5.2%. It’s a slighlty cloudy dark orange-golden beer with a fingerthick beige head. leaving lacings. Piney, resiny nose with peaches and malts. The hops do most of the job. That goes for the flavor too, which has a lovely bitterness on a sweet, malty base. Peach, pine and resin, with some citrus peel too. Full-bodied, nicely carbonated, and with a lingering bitterness in the end. A really fine APA. 100127

330 ml bottle. Hazy copper red body with a big, creamy beige head. Aroma of bitter grapefruit, peaches and a hint of caramel. Flavor is citric fruity, very tasty malt and caramel, a fine sharp but balanced bitterness. A very tasty and refreshing beer with a perfect balance between sweet and bitter. God body for only 5,4 % ABV and a long and pleasant bitter finish. This beer stand out more like an IPA for me, with a much more sophisticate malt body than many other “big” IPA’s. Some of them have a fine hop aroma and flavor, but the body is just based on a plain caramel malt body. This one got it all.
