Revision. Appearance: Clear chestnut brown, tall rocky ivory-coloured head of excellent retention. Aroma: Candied sugar, fruit esters, dark malts, spicy hints. Taste: not intense, light to medium sweet, candy,, esters, dark malts, spicy yeast. Low bitterness. Palate: light to medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: a lighter and poppier example of a dubbel.

Tasted as Tongerlo Dubbel Bruin years ago so this rating is based on old tasting notes. Authentic abbey beer with chestnut colour and medium thick, light beige head. Sweet main character: caramelly malt sweetness, candi sugar, pear, raisins, spicy hints; body is on the thin side, and there is something unmistakably metallic to it which bothers me, as well as the lack of hop bitterness to balance out the sweetness. Does not work for me but since this brand was restyled in 2009, I will soon re-rate this, like its Blond and Tripel brethren.

Zomerbierfestival 14 Pours clear brown , no head . Smell is sweet , sugary . Taste is sweet , bit earthy , caramel sugar , no complexity , nor malts , nor hops . Not too good , as to be expected .
