Deep dark brown coloured body, almost fully opaque with a nice dense light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol and a bit of lactose. Medium-bodied; Strong earthy malt at first, but the chocolate and roasted malt really comes out right afterwards. Aftertaste shows some vanilla, oak, lactose and especially coffee, along with the sweet chocolate. Overall, a nice and very rich beer complete with a good chocolate flavour throughout. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from [of all places] Knightly Spirits (Orange Blossom Trail) in Orlando, Florida for US$2,50 on 01-October-2015 sampled at home in Washington on Christmas Eve, 24-December-2015.

Bottle from Berkeley Bowl West. Pours dark brown/black with a transient, slight dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate with floral notes. Med+ body. Flavor is dark malt, dark chocolate. Floral notes seem to have gotten lost in the strong flavors. It’s a little earthy, tending towards dry. Some fruitiness comes forth with time. Very good for such low ABV.

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is more of a roasted malt and not much of a chocolate malt. Flavor has more of the chocolate but not really anything over the top. After the swallow a char malt is left on the tongue. This was a big meh for me. There was potential here but nothing really stood out.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/19/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, herbal, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/roasted malt, cocoa, and light earthy hop notes; with decent strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark bread, herbal, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Light earthy herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, coffee, toast, dark bread, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of dark/roasted malt , chocolate, and moderate herbal hop flavors; with decent complexity and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, creamy, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid chocolate stout. Good balance and robustness of dark/roasted malt, chocolate, and herbal hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.
