To commemorate an important milestone in Anchor Brewing’s long history, a special ale seemed appropriate. Having found and experimented with a very rare and unusual hop variety called Nelson Sauvin, we knew that its unique character would impart a wonderful flavor and aroma to a pale ale brewed especially for the occasion: Humming Ale.

Bottle: Slightly hazy, golden to deep golden, smaller stable off-white head, visible carbonation; a good dash of presumably american noble hops in the bitter-lemony nose; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, silky MF; lemony-hoppy finish, balanced by sweet pale malt, hops sticking gently to the palate in the aftertaste. Fine, fine.....

Bottled (from bierzwerg.de). Hazy orangeish golden colour, mediumsized white foamy longslasting head that leaves some lace. Aroma is rather fruity, grassy and quite sweet maltyness. Flavour is quite sweet fruity and floral notes along with caramel malts, some slight bready notes. Quite pleasantly balanced.

Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home.light unclear medium orange yellow color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light moderate malty, moderate to heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, grapefruit - pine, mandarin, strange fruity hops. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110115]

Hazy straw/light orange body, pillowy, thick off-white head. Leafy, floral, spicy hops nose. Strange body, leafy and almost catty, resinous, leaving a slick of bitter, pungent hops on the palate, balanced by light, bready malts. Soapy and a touch medicinal.

bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear amber colour, large white head. Impressive hoppy nose reminding me of big IPAs. Medium-bodied, malty background with an intensive hoppiness, bitter and dry, also dry on the palate. Very hoppy, very nice.

Bottle at The Cask & Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 29.12.10 Pours hazy gold with a filmy white head, in fact it looks a little like orange squash. Not as in yer’ face hoppy as some Nelson Sauvin hopped beers, but bloody likeable. Good buzzy bitterness, soft carbonation, nice bittersweetness, pleasant fruity tang. A very nice beer. 14th December 2010. At the Euston Tap with Harrisoni. Hazy gold beer with a little white head. Light dry palate. Very very dry. Reasonably balanced lagerish malt and some orange - grapefruit hop (would not have known this was Nelson). But the dryness is way too much and gets in the way - physically hard to get down!

Bottle. This is a great APA! Crisp and refreshingly bitter, yet complex and sweet. A rich hop character with notes of grapes, honey melon and grapes.

Draft at Euston Tap. Pours clear, honey-gold with a fluffy, white head. Some caramel and lightly dank hops in the nose. Flavor is of moderate sweetness with caramel and honey maltiness, lightly tart citrus hops and some resin perhaps. Light to medium in body with effervescet carbonation. Finishes with some nice, caramel and bread malts, and more good, restrained hops, plus some hints of booze. Very nice.

A golden amber ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, initial attack of butterscotch, and when swerved, something like Nelson Sauvin cat pee, wild grass, grapes, dusty. In mouth, a bready malt with dandelion shoots, wild grass, light phenolics, oily and pungeant. Interesting. On tap at ChurchKey DC, Sept. 16 2010.
