To commemorate an important milestone in Anchor Brewing’s long history, a special ale seemed appropriate. Having found and experimented with a very rare and unusual hop variety called Nelson Sauvin, we knew that its unique character would impart a wonderful flavor and aroma to a pale ale brewed especially for the occasion: Humming Ale.

Pours gold into a shaker. Tight bright white head with excellent retention tophats before cratering leaving sheet lacing. Pine and spruce aromas. Sharp bitter pine resin upfront with some caramel malt in the middle before returning to the sharp tongue-stripping grapefruit in back.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright amber color with a huge creamy orange-white head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was sweetish and spicy with moderate grapefruit and pine elements. The flavor was tart, tangy and sweetish with fairly strong notes of grapefruit, floral hops and perfumey hops. There were light undertones of caramel and orange. The finish was long, tart, bitter and fruity. Medium body. Solid.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 1 Aug 2010) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, hoppy nose with lemon, grain and grassy hops. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of lemon, grapefruit, passion fruit, grain and grassy, citrussy hops in a dry, fresh finish. Medium body, dry, with generous bitterness. Deceptively drinkable and tasty.

Draught @ Sadonkorjuu 28.8. Poured hazy golden color with a frothy/dense white head. Aroma is apples and malt. Flavor is bread and malt, with some fruity notes. Slightly bitter finish. Somewhat heavy and tough to drink, not really what I had expected.

Clear golden with a thick white head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, dough, and light honey. Flavor is nice and mild. Citrus hops, sweet, balanced fruits, doughy, and light floral. Light bodied with just a slightly dry finish. Refreshing and light, great for a summer evening.

Perhaps the best version of an american pale ale ive ever had, perfect use of the hops to create a rich flavor that isnt overwhelming. this is my ultimate session beer, completely enjoyable and never gets to the point of being a chore to finish. hoppy aroma and a subtle floral and grapefruit flavor, this is anchor reaching past its liberty ale and creating a new and better beer.

Bottle. Poured pale gold with lasting white head. Light lacing. Pickle juice aroma, that doesn’t belong in a beer. Crisp malt flavour, almost like a good helles.Nice crisp finish all over the tongue. Not a bad beer once you get past that appalling finish.
