To commemorate an important milestone in Anchor Brewing’s long history, a special ale seemed appropriate. Having found and experimented with a very rare and unusual hop variety called Nelson Sauvin, we knew that its unique character would impart a wonderful flavor and aroma to a pale ale brewed especially for the occasion: Humming Ale.

Got the last bottle they had at Hoppy Loft. Poured a hazy amber-gold body. Light herbal aroma, simple. Light malty taste ending in herbal bitterness, showing some notes of honey from time to time. Balanced, but really nothing special.

Bottle from beernavigator. Pours amber and clear with a medium sized white head. Tart, yeasty and unripe berries on the nose. A surpricing tart resinous bitterness, a little honey sweetness and lots of unripe fruits and berries, herbs, some chalkyness and all together a pretty challanging brew to drink.

355ml bottle from Bitter Virtue, Southampton. pale amber with a thin white head; the aroma has spice and tropical fruit; it has a big, soft, fruity taste; with a sweet grapefruit finish. A nicely balanced APA.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden yellow to orange colour with a decent, compact white head. Smells malts, lemongrass, slightly hoppy. Tastes malts, lemongrass, at the same time sweet, also quite bitter. Could use a bit more sweetness/fruityness because this is so bitter it feels a bit dry. Medium body, active and fitting carbo.

12fl oz. Golden/orangish colour with a large white head. Aroma is medium hoppy, floral and fresh. Flavor is floran, very floral, with hints of honey, slightly citrusy. The final has a decent bitterness with good duration. Carbonation and body are medium.

Draught at Mackinley’s Inn, Stockholm. Lightly hazy golden, small head. Aroma of lychee and gooseberry. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Lightly fruity with lyche juice and wet blanket. Mid bitter finish. Pleasant.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with little head and aromas of skunky hops and honey. Flavor is fairly hoppy, but a mix of Beck’s and lemon grass with little bit of honey type sweetness and pear. This beer has a fairly light body and would be much better in July than in the death throes of November.

Cask at the Green Lion, Malmo. A slightly cloudy light yellowish brown pour with a thin white broken head and broken lace. The weak aroma has floral and slightly malty notes. The flavour is typical Nelson Sauvin. It's bitter and some more. This is a better example than some I have tasted, but the flavour from this hop can easily become overpowering and needs to be controlled.

Bottle. Gold with a large white head. Aroma of passionfruit, grapes, oranges, grass. Sweet with citrus and tropical fruits. Mouthfeel is dull and slightly syrupy. Dryish finish with bitterness a bit underdone for me relative to the hop aromatics.
