To commemorate an important milestone in Anchor Brewing’s long history, a special ale seemed appropriate. Having found and experimented with a very rare and unusual hop variety called Nelson Sauvin, we knew that its unique character would impart a wonderful flavor and aroma to a pale ale brewed especially for the occasion: Humming Ale.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 11/11/11

Aroma: The nose is grassy hops, some yeast, bread notes, and just a drop of citrus fruits
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear caramel-orange with a thick, frothy white head, and heavy lacing
Flavor: The taste is light-medium sweet, citrus and malts, with a full grassy bitter hop presence to it
Palate: The body is medium, but leaning full for the style, with an easy drinkability, and a nice dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid brew. It combines a nice hop presence with some sweetness, and a good drinkability. It somehow manages to remain quite easy drinking, despite being fairly bold for the style. Sure, it isn't a crazy offering, but it shows how you can take a beer and just make it really well to style. I'm a fan.

Bottled 355ml (BZ, BB 07/2012)
Slightly hazy deep golden color, big cloudy white head. Lychee, watermelon, citrus in the nose, maybe not the most typical NS aroma. Light to medium bodied. Fruity ale with quite light pale malt base. Grapefruity bitterness and long aftertaste. Simple but bitter.

Light copper colour, firm white head. Aroma of malts with pronounced Nelson Sauvin. Floral, fruity, goose berries, pine, light passion fruit. Flavour lightly sweet, nicely bitter. Again the fruitiness and floral tones. Malts fade to the background. It feels rather thin, light bodied. Finish moderately bitter.

Orange yellow beer with a medium and blond head. Aroma is freshly hopped, mangos, tropical fruits, lychee, fructose sweetness and some pine forest; very tastefull aroma. Taste is nicely balanced, and not so sweet than aroma promises. Smooth maltyness, fructose sweetness, tropical fruits, grapefruits and pine needles, bitterness is first hidden, but it get stronger and stronger and dries the mouth nicely. Nice to drink, smooth and pleasant. Tropical fruity, quite sweet beer and not so bittery, very tastefull; upgraded, restrained, more sweet "trendy" version of Liberty Ale.
