Like Unobtanium, Illudium is an English-style Old Ale, but instead of being aged in whiskey barrels, we use cognac barrels. This imparts a wonderful, alcohol warmth and a slight spiciness.

Taster at the Hunstville Brass Tap. Pours dark brown, with a small, bubbly, beige head. The aroma is apple, fig, cinnamon, oak, caramel, and big grains. Sweet and grainy and a bit boozy. Medium body, lightly acidic, and bready. Fun and interesting.

Bottle. Deep amber/brown body with a short, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, licorice, alcohol, vanilla, whiskey. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Full body, velvety texture, moderate carbonation. The complexity of the nose hardly has a chance in the flavor with its cloyingly sweet, boozy, alcohol assault on the taste buds. Drain pour for me.

Bomber shared by my friend Scott. Thanks! Pours a dark brown-red with a thin creamy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of strong booze, cognac, toffee, dark fruit. The taste is toffee, dark fruits and strong cognac. Medium bodied, low carbonation, hot. Could use some age.

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small tan head. Nose is rich and complex, with loads of brown sugar, green beans, raisins and complex cognac. Flavour matches accordingly, with complex cognac, loads of brown sugar, and raisins. Wow - this is sure complex. The alcohol is well-situated and the cognac barrels add immense elegance. A wonderful sipper.
