Bottle at home massive thanks to Maakun. Burgundy wax/2015. Black with no head. Oh boy. So sweet. Pancake syrup. Honeydipped rye bread. Cinnamon, roasted paprika, bell pepper, maple syrup. Massive chocolate, toffee, chocotoff experience, light tobacco. Fluffy yet syruppy mouthfeel, black candyfloss. So sweet and smooth. Quite deep and strong bitter. Slight moldy, truffle-like plottwist. Alcohol trying to punch me but can’t get through the syruppy cobwebs of caramel jizz hanging over it. Nice. Full bodied and soft carbonation. Tripping balls at a Belgian waffle stand. Pretty sweet. SATAN SATAN SATAN HAIL TO THE DARK LORD! --- Beer merged from original tick of Dark Lord on 19 Jan 2018 at 00:34 - Score: 9

Bottle shared 2015 vintage. Black with short lasting light brown head. Coffee, thick molasses, pancake syrup (the Dutch kind), alcohol, toffee, light spices, thick sweet toffee malts, palm sugar sauce, lots of black plums, vanilla, leather. Very very sweet and some bitterness. Full thick creamy sugary body. Like drinking some kind of liquid sugar. But yeah it’s pretty good!

(Tap sample @ CBC 2016 Red Session, Copenhagen) Pours inky black with a tiny head. Aroma is really big overall and has an intense core of burnt sugar, quite heavy on black olive/soy sauce/mushroom/umami quality, dark fruit, ripe figs, roasty malts with a little chocolate. Flavour is again hyper-concentrated and fairly sweet, but not to the extent I expected after trying BA versions. It explodes with notes of black olive, soy sauce, figs, stewed plums, moderate roast to the dark malty core, toasted, definitely some feeling of sugar but not without balance, even a little tang from the olives/fruit. Roast and a bit of alcohol gives a healthy amount of drying to the back end, but the umami quality persists throughout the sip and into the aftertaste. Thick viscous body with very soft carbonation. Not really what I was expecting, as it's huge but not terribly sweet in small portions (would not split a bottle in two!), and the massive umami makes it really different.

Bottle 2017 edition. Darkest...its black, dark brown lace ring. Toasted bread, tomatoes, molasis, wood smoke, some doppelbock notes. Sugary soy sauce entry, hop oils dissolved in the booze, good profile overall. Still drinkable and not too cloying, but still a bit unbalanced to the sweet side. Banoffee cake. Roast, iodine, copper, chocolate aftertaste.
