Invented for the Liége exposition of 1905 to compete with British imports, the Spéciale Belge or Belgian pale ale style marries the complexity of Belgium’s beers to the drinkability of Britain’s pale ales. Dageraad Amber’s light malty sweetness and rich bouquet of malt and stone fruit are balanced by a hoppy aroma and a crisp finish. This beer was inspired by the experience of enjoying a fresh bolleke − Antwerp locals’ affectionate nickname for a glass of De Koninck − in the Dageraadplatz, just a stone’s throw from the De Koninck Brewery.
Dageraad Amber is fermented with Belgian yeast and bottle conditioned for natural carbonation, and an extra layer of complexity. Pour with care to leave the yeast sediment in the bottle.

100mL pour at brewery. Aroma has dry Belgian yeast, esters, bready malts. Flavour has a really nice Belgian yeast profile, bready malts, decent amount of sweetness balanced by a dry finish. Very solid.

Taster after another freaking crazy weekend 🤪 Appearance: hazy straw with a white head. Aroma: Belgian esters, fruity, malty. Taste: along the same lines. Finishes malty with a bit harsh hoppy bitterness. Overall: ok.

Nice spices in the aroma and also in flavor. Crisp body, some nuttiness a bit with hints of caramel and the Belgian yeast is not very heavy

Good foamy head that’s not too solid and a foggy medium orange body, poured at 5.9 celcius. Aroma like a burlap sack with coriander hints, yeast. Flavour is a lot of middling yeast without any strong hints, like the ingredients are cancelling each other out. No complexity, okay mouthfeel, seems to have missed its mark somehow.

Poured from the tap. Orangey yellow with white head. Belgian yeast with a little citrus and spice on the aroma. Same taste with some bready notes and a dryish finish.

650mL bottle, pours an opaque dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is nice and dry, with Belgian yeast, bready malts, and a dry biscuity quality. Flavour is essentially the same, with dry bready malts, Belgian yeast, and the faintest dry fruitiness. Bone dry, lightly spicy and brewed to style. Very nice stuff.

Bottle - Fruit esters, caramel malts and sweet Belgian yeast. Thick gold with a rich white head. Stone fruit, light grassy bitterness and malts with a mellow yeast finish. Nice.

Slightly hazy, light amber. Big fresh malt, fresh malts, complex yeast character. Dash of malts, very nice basic Belgian amber...clearly made by a student of the style.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Cloudy light amber color with compact head. Mild aroma of spicy yeast, very light vegetables and fruity esters. Smooth mouthfeel; delicate malt flavor, with strong yeast presence; the yeast provides spices, some coriander, and a woody feeling; the moderate residual sweetness is well calibrated, the light fruity touch in the final is an extra; correct bitterness.
Well constructed, comprehensive beer.
