Deep hazy amber, small-ish head. Sweet raisin and hop aroma. More sweet raisins in the flavour followed by a long hops and alcohol bitterness.

Location: Draft sampling from Whole Foods (Bowery @ Houston St.)

Aroma: Sweet doughy malts, some pine
Appearance: Darkish red, off-white head
Flavor: Sweet mix of fruit flavors, some grains
Palate: Full body, thick/chewy
Overall Impression: This was a pretty nice barley wine, strong and sweet, but still hoppy. Definitely worth a try.

Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival. Pours slightly hazy orange with off white head. The aroma is all resiny with pine hops to go along with an even and sweet malt background. The taste is moderately harsh with resiny grassy pine hops from front to back. Very IIPA like. I also get some malt sweetness attempting to smooth out the hops. The hops never really give any ground.

Draft. Amber beer with a thin off-white head. Rich spicey, malty flavor with lots of caramelization. Caramel malt aroma with some earthiness. Hops present and backing, but don’t stand out. This just didn’t do it for me and I’m surprised to see so many high rankings. It’s just a lof of malty sweetness balanced with hops - there’s not a lot of complexity here and it gets tiring.
