Dead Elephant Ale is a full bodied golden pale ale that pours with a linen white medium density head leaving spider web lace on the glass. On the palate, the flavour is sweet and fruity malts up front (apricot, mango) with a bit of candy, and slight grassy notes that fall away to reveal a hint of biscuit with rather pleasant grapefruit and perfume undertones. To the nose, there is a mild malt aroma that accentuates the robust floral bouquet derived from the hops.

Amber pour, with a fluffy white head. Aroma of citrucy hops and some sweet malts. Flavor is also quite hoppy but a tad wattery. The hops are there but the further you get intothe beer the thiner they get. The carbonation is a little low, but there is a very pleasant bitter finish.

Canned, from LCBO, Ottawa. Cloudy pale amber, rich firm head. Fruity nose with some pink grapefruit. Sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Some pink grapefruit, lots of caramel. Resinous bitter finish. Functional but overly caramelly.

Draught @ Stout Irish Pub, Toronto. Pours clear golden with small white head. Clear aroma of yeast and hops, with some malty touches. Sweetish, malty flavour with notes of yeast and bitter, hoppy touches. Rough and estery aftertaste. Okay but nothing really mind-blowing.

Can from the LCBO. Clear light amber pour with smallish white head that fades quickly without much lace. Nose is pine and grass with toffee. Light sweet caramel start with bitterness appearing as grapefruit in the middle and some sweet fruit bringing up the rear. Mouth is medium sticky with average carbonation. Decent IPA.

Can at home, 30th June 2013, with first BBQ of 2013. Nice IPA, fairly typical US style, good smooth and well balanced, liked it, although the Founders Centinnial, I had after showed off much more quality

Draught at C’est What, Toronto
Amber color, clean, with small head. Light aroma of malt and hop. The flavor is nice, crispy malt (unusual), with a touch of cereals; the mouthfeel is lean, but there is an apparent light sweetness; good bitterness, with delicate fruits. Balanced.
Fresh and pleasant.

Deep golden colour. Thin head. The aroma doesn’t have much hop at all. There’s light pale fruits, but they are subtle and indistinct. Earthy palate. Lots of fuggles maybe, still only maybe 45 IBUs. That’s pretty light. The malts are mostly light biscuity stuff and a bit syrupy. Basically a golden ale. Needs way more hop and a much brighter character. Will disappoint anyone expecting an IPA.
