Bottle from Waitrose, Frimley. Possibly served slightly too warm. Unexpexted herbalness to the malts in the aroma. Caramel brown. Off-white head is short-lived. There's a sweetness and a citrus bitterness. Makes me think of a hopped iced tea or something along those lines. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft carb. Long dry finish - an astringent elememt to the tail-end. Really good. Possibly not a surprise.

Bottle at home in Hackney - sourced from the Waitrose in Canary Wharf. Pours well clear gold with a creamy, mostly white head. The aroma holds lightly toasted leaves, grass, citrus peel, mellow bread. Light sweet flavour with nicely rounded, lightly toasted bready malt character, restrained citrus fruits, some further leaves, mild grassy bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Good balance in the finish, very well rounded, great malt character, dynamic hops. Really drinkable. A nice new-age ESB.

33cl bottle out of the Fuller's & Friends box from Waitrose, Sunningdale.It was 1974 when I first drank Fuller's ESB - at the Dove in Hammersmith. It was the first beer we had come across that was too strong to drink as a session beer, but that didn't stop us trying, resulting in several alarums and excursions, including me cracking my head open on a tube train door on one occasion when trying to disembark at South Kensington. I suspect that this beer is slightly more hoppy than the original, as hops weren't really very evident in those days, but it does have the characteristic fudgy caramel taste I was hoping for. Whether or not it's true to the original it's still a jolly good beer, I really like the way the hops cut through the sweetness of the malts, and the depth of flavour (which is markedly better that the current Fuller's ESB I've just had in preparation for this). This is the beer in this box I've most been looking forward to trying, and it hasn't let me down. It's a golden amber pour with a thin white head; toffee aroma with some resinous and citrusy hops; full bodied with lots of toffee taste, a touch of orange and honey; and a spicy, earthy bitterness giving a lengthy finish with lasting caramel and malt.

Cask @ LCBF 2017. Pours a golden pale amber color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty caramel hoppy aroma. Fruity malty caramel hoppy flavor. Has a fruity malty caramel hoppy finish.

Bottle at home, whilst preparing Xmas dins, 25/12/17. Rich amber golden with a well presented off white head. Nose is toffee, biscuit, light spice, dried fruits, red berry lInger. Taste comprises caramel, fruit cake, toasted brown sugar, light candied fruits, cheesecake base. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with balanced hop bitterness. Solid stuff ... extremely well balanced and drinkable.

Bottle at home, 19th December 17. Pours a chestnut brown. Aroma is light caramel, some floral hops. Taste is malty, sweet and bitter, lovely lingering floral bitterness. Delicious.

Bottle from Waitrose, Sheffield. Bright copper colour with a thin off white head. Aroma caramel, black tea, dried fruit and plum. Taste light sweet to light bitter dry finish. Full rich body.

Clear pale amber colour, small frothy off-white head, dissipates slowly, light lacing. Aroma pale malt, caramel, light lemon, biscuit. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, pine resin, some caramel, fruity notes. Malty bittersweet finish, burnt sensation, ash notes. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, very nice.
