The commemorative Stout is inspired by a recipe Benjamin Guinness – the son of Arthur Guinness – originally developed in 1817. It is the latest beer to be created by the Open Gate Brewery – the pilot brewery located at St. James’s Gate in Dublin – where Guinness brewers experiment with new styles and reinterpret historical brews.

11.2 ounce bottle. Opaque black liquid topped by a moderate creamy beige head. Roasted malt nose. Hints of earthy grain, lactose and burnt toast. Flavor is roasted malt, soy sauce, dark dried fruit unsweetened chocolate and charred wood. Slightly more flavor than the US available bottled Guinness, but not as complex as the Foreign Extra Stout. Good to the last drop, though.

Bottle: Pours black, with a huge, cascading dark tan head. Dark chocolate, caramel, coffee roast aroma. Taste is nicely roasty.....dark chocolate, coffee malt. Dry....very decently bodied and solidly malty. Very good.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with orange highlights and a large fluffy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was malty with molasses and raw dough. The flavor was raw dough, malt and marzipan. Long finish. Medium bodied and smooth. Not good.

This was good. Black, lacing head and smooth palate. Moderate to heavy roast, it has has that foreign or tropical stout tartness, just a hint of it. I taste anise, a little charcoal. Finish is very dry but there is some sugar first.

Very tasty stuff. Aroma is multi rosti Coco coffee slightly pungent. Appearance is black with a thick creamy moderately long lasting 10 head and a little lace. Flavor is like nose on the sweet side and very well-balanced. Excellent body and finish. Could drink a lot of this.

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is black strap molasses with cocoa and black licorice. Flavor is a big bitter bakers chocolate with a nice roasty char and finishes very dry and more bitterness hit you. This was a pretty good stout. Very malt rich without being heavy or sweet. This was more roasted and bitter.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a creamy/bubbly tan head. Aroma of treacle and coffee or chocolate or both. Med body or so. Flavor is treacle, some coffee and a slight bit of anise. It's fairly dry and probably considered bitter in IE. Smooth and interesting.
