13irteen is a dry hopped American Sour Ale with black currants. Deep ruby red in color, this American Sour Ale has aromas of tart fruit and citrus. An initial sour flavor (that’s guaranteed to satisfy any Sour beer fan) is followed by notes of dark berry. Flavors of tart black currant coat the palate before a finish that is very dry with just a touch of citrus and a slight bitterness.

12oz bottle. Really odd, off-putting aroma of sour grape and lemon pledge hop. Frankly it doesn't smell fit for human consumption. Scary stuff. More like fermented currant or grape juice than a sour beer. Maybe a strong version of a really cheap wine cooler? Quite bad. Harsh. This is why I no longer buy Shorts beer.

Can't wait to try this 2$ bottle, got it from vintage. Smells tart with mild fruit perfume. Pour is a somewhat murky fruit colored pale. First taste? No way this is beer. Its a viscous tartly sour mouth coating drink with a sweeter edge. Nice, hides alky content well. I guess you can taste the alky in this tart brew if you looked for it. Seems to know how to bring out the sweetness of this fruit beer, with a tart backbone, without any hint of cloying. Yes, nice friendly high alky impact, very rare for a real beer. Not bad. Good emotion relieving psycho effects in the finish, heheh. One of the more civilized high alky beers, JMHO.

Bottle. Light metallic aroma. Initial impression is that it certainly is flemmish in nature but it has more bitter hop than I care for. Also, the alky content is quite high making it a volatile hoppy version of rodenbach. Yes, the tartness keeps my attention and its not bad but it certainly has more as kicking personality that keeps sticking its ugly head up on the finish of each swig. Yes, you can tell its High alky but the tartness makes it feel like around 6%. Warming at first but In the end, not bad for a high octane brew.

Bottle. Deep red-orange-brown body, thin dissipating cream head. Tart, tannic nose with bitter dark fruit skin. Nicely biting tart body backed by grassy herbal, citrusy hops, quaffable and oddly refreshing for a high ABV beer.

Bottle. Black currant, malt, lemon, light sour milk, and hay aroma - very nice. Hazy reddish amber with small head. Minimally sweet black currant, biscuit malt, moderately strong sour citric acid/berry, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Nice body and balance. Very nice.

Bottle. Pours a clear red with a near white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma is full of currant with a slight tartness and berries underlying. Flavor has a combination of sweet and tart currant with berries and a bit of citrus underlying.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/12/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear reddish orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, black currant, red grape, grapefruit, green apple, melon, pear, hay, straw, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, and bread; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, black currants, and moderate bready malt/citrus hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, black currant, red grape, grapefruit, green apple, melon, pear, hay, straw, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, and bread; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Moderate fruity/lactic tartness and tangy/tannic fruit notes on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, cherry, berries, black currant, red grape, grapefruit, green apple, melon, pear, hay, straw, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, bread, light funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, black currants, and moderate bready malt/citrus hop flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light dryness from tangy/tartness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/acidic, and fairly tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol for 8.7%. Overall this is an awesome fruited sour ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, black currants, and moderate bready malt/citrus hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced tangy/tart/acidic finish. Great level of currant presence; with great balance of Brett, Lacto, and malt flavors; and solid dry hop presence. A very enjoyable offering.

I’m not really big into sours, but I am into Short’s limited releases. Wow! This is sour and tart! After the palate recovers, I taste the fruit--berries, grapes, currants, cherry. A little hint of wine.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep coppery amber, clear, with a white head. Sour aroma, berry, a little unpleasant. Flavor is a lactic sour, berry and red grape. Not a huge fan of the lactic sourness. I certainly wouldn’t rate it among my favorite sours, but it’s okay as I drink more.
