Taster pour on tap at Tapped, Maplewood. Appearance is opaque black, no discernible sparkle, 2-finger beige/light brown foamy head with excellent retention and nice leggy lacing. Aroma is light roasted malt, earth. Taste is mild chocolate. The peppers don't contribute much to the taste, more a spiciness and mild heat. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, spicy, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, aroma and taste are a bit on the mild side and a bit overcarbonated for a stout (though all taps were pouring frothy) but nice spiciness and amount of heat from the peppers. 3.8

12oz bottle. Black-brown body. Not much of a head, some oily residue. Mango and ancho are rather mild, well balanced. Mild roasty chocolate smooths it all out. Approaching a mess, but holds it together. Enjoyable on the palate, thankfully not Imperial or syrupy. OK.

Mango. pepper, chocolate malt, and dry grass aroma. Black with small tan head. Mildly sweet mango, chocolate malt, mild heat from the peppers, and mildly bitter dry grass and ash flavor. Good body and balance. Pretty good - no flavor dominates.

Bottle. Pours a thin looking dark brown with lots of carbonation and a head that dies down fairly quickly... leaving a glass of what looks like Coke. Aromas are pretty interesting; they start off with a bit of leather but then full mango takes the stage. Flavor is an odd mix of leather, mango and pepper. Dunno... it's odd as heck, but I really like it. It's maybe a bit thin on both mouthfeel and malt presence, but it's unlike any other beer I have had. The spice is pretty warm, which might be a turnoff to some.

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is some sweet roasted malt with a bit of chocolate showing up. Flavor is more baker chocolate roasted malt, a little heat and mango if you use your imagination. This is fine for what it is. Not a lot of mango but your get a good roast and some heat from the peppers without burning your mouth hole.

Mango, charred oak nose. Black, thin tan head. Walnut, mango. Medium body, easy carbonation, slightly prickly. Just the heat no flavor.
