‘Helles’ is the German word for bright, and it’s the perfect way to describe this light, golden, and refreshing beer. German Noble hops create a distinct spicy, fresh hop character, and are complemented by a touch of malt sweetness for a drinkable yet flavorful brew. Capture it before the season slips away like the golden hour of a summer evening.

This review was imported from my RateBeer ratings.

12 oz. bottle.

AROMA: Light scent of lemon

APPEARANCE: Pours a clear, golden straw with an extremely thin, white head that dissipates almost instantaneously.

TASTE: An odd mix of sweet, bitter, and sour. Bitter is the first thing my palate picks up, then I get a bit of sweetness, followed by sour. They are all lightly implemented, with none of them overpowering the others. There are light floral and lemon flavors.

PALATE: Medium-bodies with a dry, sticky texture. Carbonation is average and the finish is moderate and dry.

OVERALL: I'm not a fan of it having both bitter and sour notes, as I prefer beers that choose one or the other. However, it definitely has a unique flavor that kinda works. So that is a plus in my book. Unfortunately, that leaves me on the fence, as far as recommendations go. My only advice would be to give it a try, if given the opportunity. Otherwise, don't go out of your way to do so.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 10/2017. Pours slightly hazy pale golden/yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts the whole glass. Thick soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of cracker, biscuit, white bread dough, light pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A little fruity/yeasty, but not overwhelming. Taste of cracker, biscuit, white bread dough, light pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, biscuit, white bread dough, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Clean finish. Slightly increasing dryness from bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Fairly clean on lager flavors; some mild fruity/yeasty notes. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice Munich helles. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, clean, and refreshing to drink. Spot on style example, and very flavorful for the ABV. Clean malt flavors and just enough hops to balance sweetness. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle. Yellow-tan-orange body. Foamy white head. Pretty bland stuff, I don’t get any lager tones or malt depth. There is a pinch of noble hop bitterness up front, but fades into a real bland sweet finish. Drinkable, but bland and lifeless. Fails to nail the style.

I normally don't like helles but this one is mad refreshing, doesn't overpower with the hop.

Golden. Light hop aroma, vague herbal notes, light dusty/bready malt. Flavor with more white bread, light hop, dry fizzy finish with a lingering hop bitterness. Doesn’t really remind me of any helles I’ve ever had, so dry and bracing.

Bottle. Honey, orange, biscuit malt, and fresh hay aroma. Slightly hazy golden yellow with large white head. Moderately sweet citrus, honey, biscuit malt, and mildly bitter fresh hay flavor. Okay body. Decent but malt flavor too light.

Bottle as pictured from kroger. Bright and clear looking fer sure. Good co2 is first initial impression. Then, its not as sweet or cloying as many domestic helles, actually a pretty refreshing dort, yep. Not bad or did I just complete a difficult job and Im simply relieved that its over?

12 ounce bottle. Slightly hazy golden, large foamy off-white head, decent retention. Aroma of pale malt, grassy hops and a bit of lemon. The taste is lemon, pale malt, grass. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness, well balanced. Nice.

12oz bottle-retaining white head with trailing lace-yellow/gold. A-bready-grain. T-some spice hops, sweet grain.

12 oz bottle from the summer variety pack. Aroma is doughy malts, grassy hops, a berry-like fruitiness. Pours slightly hazy golden with a thick off-white head with excellent retention and decorative lace. Taste is sweet with lots of grassy, grainy flavor. Slightly dry, lightly bitter finish. Perfectly creamy mouthfeel with tight-knit bubbles. Not bad, but I don’t think this will ever be one of my favorite styles.
