Alt Nouveau is a decidedly hoppy take on the style, reviving a brand the brewery first released in the mid-nineties. The Art Nouveau style illustration on the label is inspired by the artichoke plantings at North Coast’s partner, Fortunate Farm, in Caspar.

Quarantine Beer #053 sampled at home on 04/11/2020. Clear mahogany-amber color with a medium light beige head that diminishes gradually to an outer ring. Small patches of lace. Malty aroma with fruit and hop notes. Light-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, dark fruit and mild earthy hop. The finish is sweet with a roast malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle at home happy for my 20th altbier rating. Chestnut pour small sudsy head. Nose is light dark fruits and malt. Tastes of tobacco, plum, earth, water crackers, pepper. Smooth palate. Slightly thin bodied. Easy drinking.

Rust and some leather and tobacco. Pours dark amber with ok head. Tangy metallic finish like warm beer at a Megadeth concert. Bottle.

Draught. Dark brown pour with white head. Mixed aroma, hop and bread. Roast malt and cracker taste with a firm hop edge. This is not a sandwich. Lekker mixed finish.

Bottle from Boise Coop. Dark, clwar brown, lasting one finger tan head. Light nutty, sweet aroma. Taste too comes in subtle, roast malts, woody, nutty. Pretty damn close, but seems a bit thin.

Fairly clear deep coppered and bronze coloured body with a small, single to perhaps two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of light malt, earth, light toffee and caramel and a dose of subdued spices near the end. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong spicey flavour at first with a deep earthy flavour and a touch of toast and light sweetness along with a dose of grain and light hit of hay and a tiny bit of hops noticeable at the very end. Aftertaste shows a small amount of grain with a bit of spices and an even a hint of caramel and toffee notes, but relatively mild towards the end. Overall, a decent enough beer with some good profiles and relatively easy-to-drink profile with some smooth complexities, but makes it nice as an altibier throughout. Not worth going out and trying to find, unless you love Alts, but nice to try. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Fairfax, Virginia on 10-September-2017 for US$2,79 sampled in my hotel room here in Orlando, Florida while on Holiday with my family on 05-May-2018.

On Tap at Bittercreek, Boise clear medium amber. Dense fine light tan head. Light toasted slightly carmelized woody malt flavors. Very lightly hoped. Fairly dry finish. A touch of brown sugar perhaps. Pleasantly surprised.
