It’s not unusual to see pronouncements of “I Heart Hops,” “I Heart Chocolate” or “I Heart Coffee” throughout #socialmedia, printed on T-shirts and, natch, emblazoned on coffee cups. Over the past couple of decades we have helped add “I Freaking Heart IPAs” to that lexicon. Today, passionate people can’t imagine a world without all of the above. For this special edition, we added chocolate and coffee to make this devastatingly fresh IPA even more seductive to the palate. We humbly suggest that you use this libation to proclaim your love for someone... and we suggest that someone be you. Loving yourself is exactly what this libation is all about. Love now; remember forever.
The best of both worlds! A hoppy beer that also has nice coffee and chocolate components. These aroma and flavors blend together nicely to create something unique in the Stone Enjoy By IPA series. Still a hop-lovers dream with the added bonus of a cup of coffee and a bite of chocolate. Perfect to share with someone special leading up to or on Valentine’s Day—or enjoy it for yourself!

[1/29/17] Bottle/Can/Crowler/Growler at a bottle share at Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa. Golden. Coffee, oniony and fruity hops, a bit of chocolate, a bit sweetish, bitter finish. Kinda strange.

Bottle (EB 2-14-17 - dammit, I’m 3 days late). Orange, pineapple, coffee, chocolate malt, and light orange peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with large off-white head. Moderately sweet orange, coffee, chocolate malt, and strong bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Good body. Flavors seem to clash and then hops overwhelm everything - not particularly pleasant.

Enjoy By 02.14.17: Orange, coffee, yeast, and rubber nose. Cloudy orange, full of flakes like a snow globe, medium yellow head. Yeasty orange, coffee. Medium body, easy carbonation, warm. I’ve learned to appreciate hoppy coffee beers, but the hop bill in this one isn’t doing it for me. Almost no chocolate detected.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Enjoy By 02.14.17. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of orange and grapefruit citrus, subtle chocolate, faint coffee. Tastes of grapefruit citrus, floral notes, light chocolate and coffee, a bit green peppery vegetal thing going on towards the finish. Medium body with a dry finish. Probably would have been better as a black IPA with this combo.

$3.10 bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours hazy orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of orange, chocolate, and pine. Flavor is chocolate, pine, lightly floral. The chocolate is too far in front for my loving - it’s bitter and dark.

12 oz bottle, Enjoy by 2.14.17, thanks Brenn79. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, musty, cookie dough. Pours hazy orange with a fleeting off-white head. Taste is highly bitter with flavors matching the aroma, although I’m not really getting that slightly off musty character in flavor. Really weird, but really interesting. Not bad to drink, though.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/8/2017. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy medium orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, light cocoa/coffee/nuttiness, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, bready malt, and light-moderate chocolate/coffee notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, light cocoa/coffee/nuttiness, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, toasted bread, light coffee/cocoa/nuttiness, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, bready malt, and light-moderate chocolate/coffee flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9.4%. Overall this is a very nice DIPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical hops, bready malt, and light-moderate chocolate/coffee flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Nicely juicy/bright and a bit dank on hops; with a nice malt backbone that isn’t too sweet. The cocoa/coffee is pretty mild, but still has solid presence. This mostly tastes like regular Enjoy By; but a bit less vibrant on hops and a little sweeter from the mellow chocolate/coffee notes. A very enjoyable offering.

Light amber. Not much head, though. This has a lot of hop, citrusy and floral. So a lot of orange but not picking up any coffee or chocolate. Full bodied, pithy and with lots of grapefruit and orange hop character. Again, no coffee or chocolate. Malts are typically Stone - bit on the chewy side, but on the whole, not bad. A good, balanced IIPA if you forget that there’s supposed to be adjuncts in this.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is confusing, with earthy hops, earthy coffee and some light vegetal notes. Flavour is likewise jumbled and confused, with earthy hops and murky coffee. Not getting any chocolate here. Even the coffee is obscured. Finishes citrusy and bitter. A rather confused beer.

Sometimes unnatural combinations work, but usually not. This is one of those times where it doesn’t work for me. It’s not bad, but I don’t plan on having another.
