A classic example of an American Red, Rocco Red Ale has enough caramel malts to stand up to the pungent pine and citrus flavors and aromas from the Chinook, Cascade and Columbus hops. The malty goodness, balanced bitterness and plenty of classic hop character may just have you writing home to mom!

[On tap at the HI, La Mirada, CA.] A dark copper pour with a thin white head; aroma of rye bread; bittersweet taste, with dark sweet malts balanced by some aggressive piney hops. A forceful red. Strangely, better than anything I tried at the brewery.

Draft pour pint at Sammy's Original. A darker, cloudy reddish pour, rocky foam head. A visciously sweet caramel malt bomb here, though I can't discredit a red for being malty. Just a bit too sweet for my taste. Long lingering caramel and berry hinted finish. Alright brew for me.

Bottle. Buttery toffee malt, light alcohol, and fresh hay aroma. Dark amber with moderate head. Moderately sweet nutty toffee malt and moderately bitter quinine/fresh hay flavor. Good body - finishes a bit boozy.

Bottle: Nearly clear, dark amber with a small beige head. Slightly spicy/woody caramel malt, maybe a little blood orange in the aroma? Flavour is sweet caramel malt, orange malt, a little pine with a mild citrus-peel bitter. Bright and lively...... One of the better Ambers I’ve had in a while.

13th May 2015: on tap in JFAT (Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern) Dana Point, Orange County. Chestnut red and clear, the fast fading head being beige in colour. Malty molasses rule the nose and taste with a chocolate like finish to the treacle/caramel flavours: my sweet tooth like it.

Bomber from Craft Beer Kings. Pours copper with an off-white head. Aroma is treacle/toffee with suggestions of hops. Med body, at least. Flavor is rather hoppy - citrus/pine, accompanied by some nifty thinly treacle malt flavors. It’s all a little thin, but the flavors are robust in combination - was that a contradiction there? Anyway, it’s maltily, hoppily spritely. Making me think of rum and coke. Non sequitur. Tasty drink, but a bit unusual.
