Leinenkugel’s winter seasonal, Bavarian Style Dunkel, is a medium bodied dark lager brewed with notes of cocoa, toasted malt and mild winter spices that blend perfectly with a hint of berries. Its rich taste and clean finish make it a great addition to a winter’s day spent cozying up by a fire.

Bottle. For what it is it’s really a good beer. Very, very dark almost black. Large three finger head that disappears quickly. Aroma deep roasted grains. Taste also deep roasted grains with brunt bitterness upfront, in the middle with a slightly sweet finish.

12 oz bottle from the winter variety pack. Aroma is grainy, caramel, bready, toasted marshmallow. Pours dark dark brown with red highlights and a long-sustaining one finger beige head that laces a bit. Taste is lightly sweet and toasty, minerals, faintly tart hint of berries. Perfect creamy mouthfeel. Pretty tasty for one of my least favorite styles.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a very dark brown color with a huge foamy tan head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was cherry cola and a bit of carmel. The flavor was dryish with wood, toffee and toasty malts. medium length finish. medium body.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours brown with a medium tan head. aroma of roasty/toasty/darkish malt with very light chocolate. Med minus body. Flavor is cocoa/chocolate with some roasty malt and something that seems spice like - not pie spice - something else. It’s an ok drink. It’s definitely not supercharged in flavor. Needs more malt and alcohol IMHO.

Bottle from Hannaford Deep dark brown with ruby at the edges ans a frothy tan head that slowly dissipates. Caramel and a hint of burnt sugar on the nose with bits of earth spice flowers and fruit. Flavor is what I expected, macro lager with caramel flavoring and spices. Clean and well made, but not my cup of tea.
