Robust all day without dictating your life, this is the porter that other dark beers hang a poster on their own bedroom wall. Malt sweetness is just present enough to enhance the dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavors without destroying the drinkability. This brew provides a subtle smoke profile that simultaneously creates new fans of dark beer and tames the beast inside the bold-beer aficionado.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice smoke note with roasted malts and dark grains supporting. Flavor does a nice job of combining dark grains, roasted malts and a nice skokiness.

Draft (growler). Earthy coffee, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Black with small tan head. Lightly sweet dark chocolate malt and moderately bitter black coffee/hay flavor. Okay body. Nice.

Sample at the brewpub. Dark brown color with a thin dense tan head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt, coffee and chocolate. Light-bodied with flavors of charred malt, dark chocolate and coffee. The finish is mildly smoky with a burnt malt aftertaste. Not sure if it is a reference to the Kavinsky song, but an above average beer overall.

A deep dark porter with a thick frothy brown head. In aroma, smooth powdery chocolate with coffee grinds, In mouth, a sweet chocolate with light peated notes, a bit too sweet. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012.

Growler shared by Brian. Opaque black with a thin, oily beige head. Roasty chocolate aroma. Medium to full bodied, oily specialty malts in the mouthfeel. A solid offering, not overboard with the smoke, but it is certainly present.
