355ml can [as Doctor Bock]. Cloudy, auburn colour with ruby shimmer and small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Mellow and minimally toasty, malty aroma, notes of malt lozenge, a touch of caramel. Taste is caramel malty and minimally toasty dark malty, hints of malt lozenge, caramel, subtle residual sweetness, mildly bitter, hoppy counterpart. Dissolved sugar enriched, watery texture, minimally dry palate, fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Light, not overly complex, not really bock-ish - so-so.

12 ounce can from Trenton Road Takeout. A long way from Texas. Mahogany brown color. Frothy tan head. Roasty malt nose has hints of cocoa. Flavor is roasted malt, Baker’s chocolate and a hint of toasted walnuts. Some toffeeish notes in middle. Wonderfully smooth and eminently drinkable. Nicely done.

Toadies an interesting band in the early alt rock days. Possum Kingdom, a radio staple in the day. Let’s see how their beer tastes. On this pleasant, early fall afternoon I have my ABGB glass ready for a pour. The view is a dark brown-amber with a creamy top of light tan foam. I smell grain and a bit of astringency, no surprise for the style. And the taste is likewise style-centric. More of the grain, water, malt and a slight touch of sweetness. A sedate offering from Martin House.

On tap at Big Texas Beer Fest. Pours a hazy copper with thick frothy beige head that lasts. The aroma is bready malt and toffee. Medium body toasted malt, light toffee, dry finish, good.

12 oz can purchased in Austin, TX. Pours a cloudy copper color with a HUGE khaki head and annoyingly excellent retention. Good lacing. Caramelized aroma. Toasted caramel flavor. Tastes like a toasted amber lager. Lightly sweet, not bitter. Simple profile. Clean. Tasty.

Shared 12 oz. can. Pours a dark hazy copper color with a short-lived beige head. Aroma of brown bread, caramel, malt. Taste is brown, bread, burnt brown sugar, caramel, nuts. Sounds good, but was kind of weird. Sweet malty finish.
