Filled with equal parts of intense dusky citrus hops and dark malt flavors, this seasonal is seductively smooth, silky, and graceful, yet packs a hop punch for the hop-heads. The hops induce thoughts of grapefruit, blood orange, apricot, and tangerines as they intermingle with, black chocolate, and roasted varieties of barley smoothed out with a dash of oatmeal.

12 ounce bottle, 8/29/16. Near black, large dense creamy brown head, good retention. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Not much hoppiness. Much like a porter. The taste is resin, earthy hops, roasted malts. Thin-medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Solid.

Bottle. Chocolate caramel malt, pine, and grapefruit peel aroma. Brown with moderate head. Sweet chocolate caramel malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nice balance and body. Very pleasant.

Tap at Karben4. Minty chocolate feel. Mild, mellow carbonation. A well done Black IPA, fairly standard in a way. Caramel and chocolate malts shine. Enjoyable, but middle of the road.

A clear dark brown IPA with a thin mocha head. In aroma, beautiful citrusy hops with dark chocolate, caramel, very nice. In mouth, a smooth roasted malt with complex hops, floral catty notes, resinous, citrus pulp, well done. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012.
