Bottle thanks to wombat23. Pours dark brown from the bottle. Frothy to creamy tan head that sticks to the glass and lingers. Aroma is a wonderfully subtle mix of plum, dark chocolate and licorice. Taste is unfortunately not nearly as interesting—a sort of menthol ladened cough drop flavor sets the tone, accompanied by a mild berry sourness and a hint of dark chocolate. Body is medium, carbonation is mild. It’s not bad but this feels like an unfinished effort.

Bottle, 6.5℅, thanks derA! Brown color with beige head. Aroma is brown malts, chocolate, molasses, toffee, some liquorice. Taste is chocolate, liquorice, molasses, earthy, a bit roasted and some brown sugar. Slightly watery mouthfeel, high but soft carbonation. Not bad, but not excellent.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Roasty and dark, some coffee, some chocolate, but mostly heavy and dark. And dry. Opens up on the palate, very nice.

Bottle: Pours a lighter than expected brown and despite my best efforts produced no more than a tiny ring of brown head. The nose is light and airy, slightly sweet. Vanilla and cocoa with faint roast. A little bit of spice in the taste, but I can’t pinpoint anything. Modest roast and light floral bitters.

Bottle, at Baran. An almost black one, topped by a dense, dark beige head leaving curtains. Dried fruits, roasted malts, nuts and a touch of chocolate in the aroma. It’s full-bodied and semi-dry on the palate, with a nice carbonation level. Dried fruits and some chocolate in the flavor, roasted, and a bit sweet, with a medium length finish. A decent one, but a bit boring I think. 140906
