Goodwood Bourbon Barrel Ale is refined by its time in the cask, not defined by it. The process produces balanced, adjunct-free ale with delicious bourbon notes. This copper-toned beaut is medium-bodied and malt-forward with a hint of sweet caramel. It finishes strong and dry with notes of vanilla and bourbon-soaked oak.

Bottle. Clear amber color with a very small head. Aroma had notes of caramel, vanilla and bourbon. Taste had these smal notes of caramel, vanilla and bourbon. Really good beer.

Draft pour at Goodwood Brewing, Louisville. Poured a dark, clear amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was big malts, caramel. Woody, bourbon. Vanilla, with a sweet, light boozy - but not hot alcohol note to it. Relatively well rounded.

330ml can from Monster and Beer, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a murky medium brown colour with a short-lived, frothy off-white head. The aroma is malt, toffee caramel and oaky bourbon notes. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter, with a smooth, slightly watery, light floral hop, light burnt treacle palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. I paid a premium price for this, but if you put a poor beer into the barrel it will still be poor when it comes out.

Taster at brewery. Dark, clear amber, ring of head. Aroma is brown sugar, malty, bourbon. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, dry. Not overly boozy, but barrels accent the right elements.

On tap at Goodwood, pours a hazy amber orange with a small beige head. Nose brings out heavy bourbon notes, with little else. Flavour is not that abrasive or intense, with subtle bourbon barrels dominating, leaving a subtle vanilla sweetness on the finish. Nicely done.

English-style ale with a big caramel/dried fruit front fading into a vanilla-tinged, mildly boozy finish. Some oak, a little bit of bourbon, but really an understated take on the recipe.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark amber with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is wood, smoke, roast, cocoa. Medium body, similar flavors to nose, dry booze finish, good.

On draught at Caribbean Jerks. Clear dark amber color with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly to a film. Short strings of lace. Malt, oak and hops in the nose. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, mild hops and subtle oaky bourbon. The finish is sweet with a malt and vanilla aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Clear medium/dark amber with a fleeting off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee. The flavor is a nutty caramel with a bit of vanilla. Some interesting flavors here but I didn’t find the bourbon.
