Double IPA brewed exclusively w/ Whole-Cone Centennial Hops grown at Roy Hop Farm (Yakima Valley, Washington)

“It’s great that Victory actually cares enough about their raw materials to send the Brewmaster all the way to Yakima to check on quality. Everyone knows that hops are essential to beer but few people know what it takes to get them to a brewer. Being recognized as a contributor of a Victory beer is rewarding.”
~Jim Boyd of Roy Farms. Our second Ranch recipe was called “Ranch R” and featured centennials from Roy Farms. There will be another version with cascades from Roy Farms.

Draft: Amber, small off-white head. Resiny, orange marmalade aroma. Orange sweet over pine and peel bitter. Not bad, though onlt a little kick from the hops.

Brewvival Trip Beer 86. Draft at Brewvival. Pours a clear copper color with a large frothy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of resin, pine, tropical hops, pale malts. The taste is tropical, citrus, earthy hops and pale malts. Medium bodied.

Served on draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention and nice lacing. Aroma of citrus, spice, herbal, peppery and tropical hops. The taste is sticky tropical, pine, citrus and earthy hops with a very faint malt note. Definitely a hop bomb. Full bodied with a lingering bitterness.

Draft at Olympic. Huge amount of hop bitterness. Loads of citrus and tropical fruits. Very strong caramel malt backbone. Probably one of my new favorites from Victory.

Draft (Draught House Pub in Austin, TX 11/16/2012) listed as "Victory Ranch DIPA 9%". Keg collar did not specify anything beyond that. Pours with a crystal clear bronze hued body with an off-white head. Aromas are malty first, caramel, bready. Pretty clean yeast wise. Hop character is pine, mint and spicy. Flavors are bready, grainy, malt forward East-Coast DIPA. Relatively hoppy with citrusy and minty characteristics. Medium carbonation, fuller bodied and a bit sweeter than I like my DIPAs.

Tap @ the Inaugural Boulder IPA Fest. Titled "Victory Ranch Double IPA" so I’m not positive this is a correct spot for the review. Anyhow... Porus a clear orange appearance with an off white head. Woody, earthy, dull herbal aroma. Chewy, spicy, orange fruity flavor that’s a bit boozy.

Tap. Pours clear amber with a small beige creamy head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit and spruce. Flavor is spruce, herbal, pine needles, light caramel malt backbone. Light sweetness, medium bitter finish. Well masked ABV from start to finish. Nice one.

Sample at House of Beer in Orlando. This beer pours a clear orange-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of hops, fruit and malt. Medium body with flavors of hops, tropical fruit and caramel malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a grapefruity hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Location: Draft at Blind Tiger, 7/23/12

Aroma: The nose is full of hops, citrus, pine, resin, fruits, and a little caramel
Appearance: The pour is clear caramel-orange with a small white head and mid-plus lace
Flavor: The taste has some light sweetness, but mostly it is medium-heavy bitter
Palate: The body is mid-full, with a smooth and dry texture, and average-soft carbonation
Overall Impression: This is some pretty solid stuff. I enjoyed it, it just works pretty well. There really isn't too much to add to this one beyond that.
