A true Bavarian wheat yeast, sixty percent wheat malt, and German hops make Santa Fe Wheat Beer as true to the style as any American rendition can be. German Wheat Beer, with its hints of banana and clove, its delectable, spicy hops, and its pale golden color, is becoming increasingly popular in America’s craft brewing world, and with good reason: wheat beers are both light enough to please light beer drinkers, and complex enough to please true micro-brew connoisseurs. To mimic a classic German Hefeweizen, after pouring your Santa Fe Wheat Beer into a glass, swirl the last few drops in the bottle to loosen the yeast from the bottom, then pour the yeast over the top of your beer.

Bottle as shown. Pours a hazy yellow golden with a small off white head that quickly diminishes to nothing. The aroma is yeast clove and pepper. Thin mouthfeel with a strong yeast and earthy flavor with a spicy finish. A good German Hefe from Sante Fe.

Bottle @ home. A touch hazy, golden yellow appearance with a white head. Quite spicy, yeasty, clove, light banana, sweet wheat malty aroma. Clove, light banana, light citrus, spicy hoppy, wheat malty flavor. This really looks like they filter it despite the description, in which case this should be classified as a Kristallweizen. There are some yeast characteristics but they are mild.

Cloudy straw. Soft and marshmallowy banana aroma. Spritzy carbonation, cutting through a semi-sweet banana character. Has some acidity in the finish to provide additional dryness.

Bottle. Cloudy golden body. Fizzy white head, rapidly diminishing. Toasted grain dominates the aroma. Hint of clove and banana but you have to try hard to detect it. Flavor is light to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes light to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Where is the tartness? Grainy taste. Just a hint of clove. Meh.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a weizen glass, trade from cavie. Pours a clear pale yellow with small white head that dissapates quickly. Highly carbonated in the center, light watery body, thin texture, and virtually no lacing. Taste is slightly yeasty wheat and some sour tang. Dissapointing even for an american hefeweizen.

12oz bottle. Cloudy orange-tan. Quick fading foamy white head. Crisp lemon-clove aroma, some candy banana as well. Medium bodied, crisp up front, with a very mellow, watery, malt finish. I really get more lemon in this than a typical Hefeweizen, but it sort of adds some fresh crispness I suppose. Rather mundane and subdued, not a particularly exemplary example, but still a refreshing, enjoyable beer.

Bottle - very lively, lightly hazy gold pour, with a frothy, thick, well-sustained head - subdued by complex aroma, with notes of yeast, understated phenols, orange and lemon zest, honey, lavender - creamy mouthfeel - very light and balanced - very subtle, which some might mistake for being simplistic, but it is not - dough, yeasty, tart orange - a bit of crispy grain character - mellow phenols - tangy and earthy - fairly dry and quite spicy - finish of lemon and dry grains - quite lovely, really.

12oz bottle pours out clear gold with loose off white head. The aroma is sweet with a modest level of wheat, some banana, faint floral hops as well as some spicy hops. The taste begins pretty darn smooth with somewhat viscous sweet wheat mixing with some sweet bananas. By midway thin layers of spicy and floral hops interrupt the wheaty – banana like sweetness momentarily. A modest level of banana runs deep into the after taste.
