Bottle received in trade. Thank you daknole! Pours vibrant hazy reddish blue with a frothy pinkish white head that slowly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is fruity with lemon juice, bilberry soup, purple winegums, lime juice, hay, dry soil and moist wood. Taste is sour and fruity with crackers, bilberry soup, bathhouse water (chlorine) minerals, lemon juice, lemon zest, vanilla hard candy, lemon juice, hay and sour milk.mouthfeel is crisp, dry, tart and light bodied. Finish is sour and fruity with bilberry soup, blueberries, chlorine, minerals, hay, dry soil, lemon juice and lemon zest. Strange chlorine character.

At a tasting, thanks DSG, small bubbly pink head, very hazy red colour, berry flavour with mud, manure and herbal tea, fruity flavour with vinegar and herbal tea, not too sour. Quite nice but not too refined.

Re-rate 5/13/17: Draught at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017. Green session. Deep red. Juicy blueberries, jammy, tart, clean. Really delicious. 8/4/8/3/17=4
Bottle shared at a sour tasting at Noam’s office. Thanks troganmi for this bottle! 2012 bottle. Nice clear red with a pinkish head. Aroma is a bit medicinal, with berries, oak and some funk. Sour flavor with berries, oak, light sweetness, citric notes and some funk. Medium-bodied. 7/4/8/3/16=3.8

Pours a dark red with thin head. Strong sour blueberry aroma. Strong bite taste with long lasting blueberry and sour flavors. A little different then most sour ales, but overall a good, must try beer. I’ll be looking into this brewery some more. Update: 2016 draft at Hop and Hound. Fun to revisit this 6 years later, after many other Cascade experiences in between, including every single Portland trip. Fantastic sour, nice blend of mixed berry and a wine like barrel linger. Huge sour up front, dried up a touch by some wood character. Most excellent.

750 ml corked and caged bottle, 2012 Project. Pours hazy ruby red with a purple-white head with decent retention. Aroma is blueberry-packed. Taste is sour (7/10 on a sour scale), acidic, blueberry fruit (but not as strong as the cherries in the Cantillon we had before this). Foamy champagne-like mouthfeel. Really good beer, but it can’t compete with the Cantillon.

Sample at Kurtkeller 006: Cascade-tastic 01 on 02/21/2014. Cloudy ruby-brown pour with a medium thin fizzy pinkish-white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of berries and yeast. Medium body with a mildly funky undertone and flavors of blueberries, earthy yeast and citrus. The finish is fruity with a mildly tart blueberry aftertaste. Solid all around.

22.04.2013, 0,75l bottle sampled @ kraddel’s tasting:
Lett frisk og syrlig lukt med preg av malt, kunstig blåbærbruspulver, gras. Frisk lett syrlig smak med preg av malt, kunstige sure blåbær, syregras. Middels bitterhet som set litt, uttørrande munnfølelse. Kjedelig.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2012 vintage. Pours lightly hazy ruby red color with a 1-2 finger foamy light pink head with decent retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing on the glass, with tons of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big tart blueberry, green apple, cherry, pear, raspberry, pepper, hay, funk, oak, clove, leather, red wine, light vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of blueberry notes with fruity/spicy yeast and barrel presence; and big strength. Taste of tart blueberry, blueberry skin, green apple, pear, raspberry, pepper, hay, grass, oak, clove, funk, leather, red wine, light vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of blueberry, apple, pear, raspberry, pepper, oak, clove, hay, funk, red wine, light vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of blueberries with fruity/spicy yeast and barrel notes; with a fantastic balance of malt/acidity and zero cloying flavors after the finish. High carbonation and medium bodied; with a very crisp, prickly, and moderately acidic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic Blueberry sour ale! All around great complexity and balance of blueberry with fruity/funky yeast and oak character; and very smooth and crisp to drink with the moderate acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

On tap at the Barrel House. Massively hazy rose with an off-white head. Spritzy mouthfeel with astringent finish. Tartness in the flavor, but the fruit is subdued. My least favorite of the 8 i tasted on this day.
