Introducing Pedigree, or “P” as it was first known. Strange that looking back. Anyway, it has a fascinating aroma. Palate of biscuit malt, spicy hops and light fruitiness. It was renamed in a staff competition back in George Peard’s day. He was our head brewer back in the day. Cheers George!

Pours an amber color.Aoroma is malty. Almost a mild in character but with just a light twiggy, leafy hop hint.

Bottle from the local Lidl. Copper colored with a thin, creamy head. Aroma of cherry cough drop over a cereal base. Taste is mildly bitter and empty of nuance. Body is light, texture watery. Dull stuff.

Optisch Kupfer, in der Nase schwierig, könnte aber auch die Hefe sein, welche ich in der Flasche aber nicht erkennen kann. Im Trunk Karamell, aber auch sehr künstlich, dann bitter, hinten süß, matt, naja.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - deep amber to brown. Off white head. Nose - caramel and cake generally. A hint of orange if you really search it out. Taste - mainly caramel. Palate - close to medium bodied. Creamy texture, the finish could be fresher. Overall - a bit on the sweet side. Would like some more biscuit bitterness.

Bottle from Lidl Boring, isn't it? Surprising apple feel, that I didn't expect with this mass prod. Meh

50cl bottle at home (15 VIII 2020), as Marston's Pedigree Amber Ale. A 4.5% ABV amber ale, bottle conditioned... which is a deliberate enhancement for the yeasting according to the brewer. It is an amber brew for sure, orange hazy to brown unclear with a fresh off-white collar on top, swiftly diminshing. The nose has faint flavours, which make me think of grains, honey, dirt, overripe oranges, cassonade sugar, Turkish delights, boozy cognac. It is not that appealing, I'm afraid. The overall scent is restrained, not voluminous or overwhelming, and lacks a trademark. The mouthfeel is underwhelming too, although there are some pleasant notes. The carbonation is perfect, and the light bodied feeling has a lingering fruity character. The palate is not that sweet and the hops are in tune. The body is quite thin, which almost appears to be watery. The malt features are hidden as well, making the mouthfeel very clueless and generic for every plain ale. One can appreciate some fruity hints, but they are hard to find. There are no faults in this brew, for sure, but all-in-all, this amber ale is just too dull.
