1/2/2019. Cask at the XT Brewing tap takeover at the New Inn, Colchester. Pours very dark brown with a ruby tint and a very small off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, mild roasted malt, light coffee, lactose and dried fruit. Medium plus sweetness with moderate roasted bitterness. Medium body, slight slick texture, very soft carbonation. Best one here so far.

Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Creamy vanilla aroma with a hint of liquorice. Cola brown. Very thin white head. Light bitter. The vanilla comes through but it's sweet and sour, as opposed to sweet. An element of coffee. Pretty light for the style. Soft carbonation. Abrupt finish. Undrepowered. More like a sweet mild but pleasant enough.

Cask at Bootlegger, High Wycombe. Black with a large tan head. Chocolate, wood, balsamic vinegar and blackcurrant. Vinegar grows- oh dear, this is not in the best of condition is it? - but oddly works with the other flavours in a kind of Rodenbach-y way which is at first almost pleasant. But by the end of the glass almost isn’t. Odd. Wonder if this is still the same cask that the Bois had here a week ago- if so that’s a shocker by the Bootlegger’s standards.
