Something holy, something wicked... We joined our forces and created an experience. Bringing together Belgian style influence in a traditional Russian Imperial Stout has an outcome quite noticeable.

A blast of sweet chocolate, pralines, coffee, molasses and roasted notes come in a creamy, smooth, balanced taste by few esters and with a refermentation in the bottle, everything becomes more interesting. Let yourself be seduced and See the Light or the darkness.

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is roasted malt with lots of chocolate, cocoa, touch of coffee, hint of dried fruit, caramel. I can definitely get behind the mention of pralines on the label. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a mild roasty bitterness and a little suggestion of yeastiness and tartness. Body is above medium, no sign of the 10%. Could be a bit more full, but... so nicely chocolate-y with a distinct 'Belgian twist'.

Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Smooth and somewhat airy palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Soft dark malts, a little dark malt cream. Mellow creamy dark chocolate with a near perfectly integrated soft Cappuccino coffee. Mellow fruity tones on the back end. Description says Pralines and I have to say I am persuaded. Soft finish. My second beer from Oriel and it's an impressive Impy, light and flavoursome. Definitely a brewery to watch.

Pitch black, fast diminishing mocha head. The aroma is not the showiest - humble dark sugars and some burnt / roast notes. Very light hints of alcohol and peppery spice. You do get some dark alcohol soaked dried fruit as the temperature goes up. So, roughly a Quadrupel / Impy hybrid, just not as bold as expected. The taste, on the other hand, is bolder and even closer to a Quad - not as much chocolate, roasty coffee or big dark sugars, as there's alcohol soaked dark fruit, light notes of dark bread crust, some basement / mold notes, palate numbing alcohol and light spicy bitterness. All, in a traditionally thin and easy drinking body. Imperial Stout is a bit of a misnomer for this beer, otherwise a decent Belgian Dark strongie - not as showy as American style implies, but it does have other strong sides.
