Bottle at home, 4th January 2020. Pours a very dark brown or black, not much of a head. Aroma is caramel, cocoa, liquorice, taste is bitter and salty liquorice, hoppy, citrus pith, dark chocolate and cocoa, a deep liquorice bitter finish with a little heat. Good bitter complex BIPA.

Black with thin head. Aroma starts with floral hop notes. Quite perfumed. Some dried fruits too. Flavour has some sweet elements of mocha, chocolate cake and strawberry jam. That gives way to a hoppy bitterness. The aftertaste is a pleasant combination of it all. A little warmth from the alcohol too.

TTasting at Zil Verne. Almost black color with medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, fairly amount of citrus hops. Taste, chocolate, roasted malt, followed by nice amount of citrus hops. Alcohol is dangerously hidden. Good one.

Bottke shared with my bro. It pours jet black with decent tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, sticky, resinous, pine, dark fruits, berry, liquorice and rocky road. The taste is dry, bitter, resinous, pine, charred wood, light rawness, rocky road, burnt toast, dark fruits, nips of spice, malt loaf and some boozy warmth with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Flavourful and moreish. Tasty stuff.

I like this a lot. Feels a touch richer than a lot of BIPAs which I'm in favour of and a it just hits a really good sweet spot between lighter, IPA-y flavours with fruit and pine and dry, toasty malts and dark chocolate. Great stuff.

Imperial black IPA by this renowned Scottish brewery (no, not that one), double dry-hopped. Bottle at the new Bar Beenhouwer craft beer pub in Ghent. Irregularly edged, rather thinnish, papery lacing, open, pale greyish beige head, black robe with hazy burgundy hue. Aroma of toasted pine nuts, cedar oil, grapefruit peel, toasted brown bread, wet leather, black olives, bladderwort, bitter chocolate, nutmeg, gin. Sweetish onset, dried blackberry and fig notes, light black olive-like umami, fizzy carbonation with minerally side effects but okay for the style; full, oily body, lovely thick roasted nut-like malt bittersweetness with slightly more emphasis on sweetness than on bitterness, smooth-edged, bitter-chocolatey and black-coffeeish in the end, where it meets the expected long hoppiness, grapefruity and piney, dried elderberry effect or even juniper berry-like spiciness yet nowhere harshly bitter, working well with the toasty maltiness. Leathery, peppery and warming gin-like booze effects further grace the finish. Another strong BIPA that comes across as rather malt-forward - which is no problem for me, this is absolutely delicious.
