Select Dunkel is a traditional German styled dark lager, brewed in accordance with Germany’s RheinheitsgebotPurity Law of 1516. What makes Select Dunkel distinctive is its smooth refreshing drinkable flavor and its clean finish. We think you’ll agree that Christian Moerlein Select Dunkel is quite simply a better dark beer.

Dark caramel nose with a chocolate hint. A mahogany color with a beige head that didn’t stick. Near medium body with fizzy/creamy carbonation. The flavor is much of a porter - some lightly toasted malt and some coffee. The finish is neither here nor there, and there’s not much bitter. Still, it drinks rather well. After taste is a bit burnt. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Bottle from shigadeyo, sampled with badnewsbeers. Toffee body, thin off-white head. Toasty aroma with toffee and hints of butterscotch. Light toasty, caramely body, with butterscotch and toffee rounding out the palate. Thin but decent.

Bottle. Caramel and bread/yeast aroma. Light brown with small head. Light sweet caramel and bread flavor. A bit watery - would be a great beer with more body.

Thanks go out to slob for giving me the opportunity to add a rating to the few that have been given so far for this beer! Huge frothy head over a clear brown body. Sourdough yeasty aroma over the malts. The flavor is well balanced just lacking in a bit of intensity to really take charge. Light body that is a bit thin.
