Pour is a cloudy bright yellow with a small white head. The look of this brew is right on the mark with a hefe but thats about where compairisons end. Aroma was hard to detect and the flavor is a very grainy breadyness with no real aftertaste. Not even in the same ballpark with my Franziskaner.

Another miss by Michelob. +++Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a slightly - only slightly - cloudy orange golden color with a small white head that quickly disappears. So the first thought here is that it certainly does not look much like a hefeweizen - although the appearance in not ugly - just a bit out of style. The aroma is grainy with a hint of citrus, and given the lowered expectation I gathered from the appearance, it was quite surprisingly well scented. The hopes rise only to be dashed by that first taste. I guess there is some detectable wheat like flavor to this brew, but it is vague and watery at best. There is a bit of bitterness and that vague macro skunk to the flavor. This feature lingers on the aftertaste. The citrus that was hinted at in the scent was nowhere to be found. Sadly, if I had not known what I was drinking I would have been hard pressed to declare the product a hefeweizen based on the flavor alone.

German brewers should sue A-B for this. To call this beer a Weizen is criminal. If I close my eyes and hold my nose, it almost begins to approach the worst German Weizen (drank warm). I wouldn’t be so hard on this had they called it anything else - it’s not a bad beer; I just don’t think it tastes anything like a true Weizen.
