Very indulgent, starting with a wave of semisweet chocolate and caramel, followed up by notes of raisin, sorghum, anise, roast, and dark roast coffee. Hints of pine, chocolate liqueur, and black cherry. Bittersweet finish leads to a warm, thick fade. Good, but gets a bit syrupy and cloy as it warms. Sixteen ounces can be a bit much. Better in small doses.

16 oz can from Tavour. Black pour, beige head disappears. Roasty, chocolaty aroma with hints of coffee. Taste is sweet, more chocolate, more roast, cacao, light savory accents. Rich, smooth, velvety.

16 ounce can into snifter, canned on 8/21/2019. Pours dense opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery, roast, charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark bread/crust, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a fantastic roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 12%, with no lingering booze after the finish. Overall this is an incredible imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mellowly bitter/charred/drying finish; amazingly soft/silky feel for the ABV. Super rich black/roast/bready malts, balancing earthy hops, and restrained fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example. This is basically spot on for an RIS, if there was a bit more hops/bitterness it would be perfect.
