16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/19/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, and pine; with lighter notes of molasses, smoke, charcoal, dark fruit, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, and pine; with lighter notes of molasses, smoke, charcoal, dark fruit, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus rind, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery, roast, charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, pine, molasses, smoke, charcoal, dark fruit, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome hop/roast bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/chalky/resinous mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.2%. Overall this is an excellent American stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly bitter/charred. Great balance of rich malts and earthy hops; with mild fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. No complaints.
