Sampled from a bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a caramel highlights and a huge fluffy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was cola, wood, malt, caramel and a bit of dust. The flavor was wood, whiskey, malt, dust, caramel and nut. Medium length finish. Medium body.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with a foamy beige head. Aroma is chocolate with a very light bourbon note. Med body or so. Flavor is chocolate and moderate/light bourbon. Some musty wood aspects. Whatever I expected, it actually tastes pretty good. I&G certainly comes up with some interestingly flavored ales.
Malty sweetness but thin unfortunately and the bourbon sweetness doesn't go far.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 9/2019. Pours crystal clear very dark ruby red/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, roasted nuts, and brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, raisin, plum, fig, date, red apple, orange, smoke, wood char, leather, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, roasted nuts, and brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, raisin, plum, fig, date, red apple, orange, smoke, wood char, leather, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, roast bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, roasted nuts, brown bread, light molasses/dark fruit, smoke, wood char, leather, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 7.4%. Overall this is a delicious English porter. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish. Great balance of nicely rich malts and barrel presence/integration; with mild fruity yeast and earthy hops against sweetness. Not a ton of barrel presence, but definitely adequate. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
