A tribute to one of our favorite beers of Belgium. This simple base of Indiana malted barley, an absolutely silly amount of the finest Hallertauer Mittlefruh we could get our hands on, and our house yeast culture come together to form this intensely hoppy and dry beer.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours very hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, red apple, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, cracker, white bread, light pine/leather/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, red apple, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, cracker, white bread, light pine/leather/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and peppery yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, red apple, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, pine, cracker, white bread, light leather/musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness and carbonation. High carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is an outstanding hoppy saison. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Not aggressive. Awesome balanced Brett/Saison yeast complexity, earthy noble hops, and pilsner malts. No residual sweetness from crisp dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected.

Can - lightly hazy orange with a soapy lace - nose of peppery and lightly funky phenols, herbs, grass, light gum esters - flavor is similar - medium bitter and herbal up front, followed by peppery and rustic phenols, ending lightly grainy and mildly sweet, with some gum esters - the esters are not what I generally like in this style, but it's pretty good!

Pour is a yellow-orange with a large white head. Aroma is a nice estery and floral yeast. Flavor is bitter hop at first then comes a bit of florals and then the yeast esters hit you. The can did not lie this is bitter and dry as all get out. Everything you are looking for in a saison is here plus some hop bitterness to keep it interesting.
